Title: Development Communications and Digital Specialist

Hours: 40 hours - M-F from 8:30-5 PM EST

Location: Candidate must be local to Massachusetts to be able to travel onsite in a hybrid model a few times per week at one of our locations in Massachusetts. Including but not limited to: Tufts Medical Center, Melrose Wakefield Hospital, Lowell General Hospital, or Corporate HQ in Burlington, MA.

Job Overview

This position coordinates communications activities with donors and prospective donors at Tufts Medicine, which includes Tufts Medical Center, Lowell General Hospital, Melrose Wakefield Hospital and Tufts Medicine Care at Home. Produces digital communications to support fundraising initiatives, including email campaigns, online donor forms and other web-based assets using fundraising customer relationship management (CRM) applications. Collaborates with development stakeholders and third-party design team to project manage the production of development communications collateral to enhance donor engagement, solicitation, and stewardship activities in support of fundraising priorities of the institution. Such content will be designed and targeted to highlight and advance the themes and priorities of the strategic plan of Tufts Medicine, and to engage and cultivate donors and volunteers. Participates in design and web presence efforts for the department and written communications projects. Ensures all departmental communications are within brand standards.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field.

2. Two (2) years of relevant experience in development, communications, marketing, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Three (3) years of relevant experience in development, communications, marketing, or related field.

2. Experience with web-based editing and a donor CRM (Constituent Relationship Management) system.

3. Experience in project management.

4. Experience working with creative agencies.

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list.  Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

1. Partner with development and marketing/communications teams to plan, execute and track web-based communication campaigns.  Use CRM tools to build and deploy emails, online giving forms and other web-based assets to support fundraising campaigns and initiatives.

2. Produce content for development communications, working with faculty, staff, the development team, and third-party vendors to highlight research, programs and clinical excellence using the full range of storytelling tools, such as written copy, video, photography, and graphic design.

3. Ensure communications are relevant, engaging, on-brand, and user-friendly.  Create opportunities for donor engagement and recognition.

4. May write proposals, marketing collateral and case materials, gather content from development colleagues, from existing materials and through outreach and interviews with program staff, including physicians, researchers, and other leaders.

5. Produce copy that is compelling, inspiring, and donor-centered, translating complex medical concepts into clear lay language.

6. Create content (infographics, brief videos) to enhance creative online storytelling.

7. Write and edit annual and impact reports, eblasts and mail collateral, including internal communications.

8. Collaborate with development staff to execute designed reports and proposals that reflect established stylistic and brand standards.

9. Participate in development and implementation of project management schedules for the creation and development of communications materials, including setting agendas, writing meeting summaries and monitoring next steps to ensure projects stay on track.  Collaborate with and oversee work performed by third-party vendors.

10. Write copy in support of other development activities, as needed, which may include assistance with events programs and other collateral.

11. Keep current on strategic plan and fundraising priorities, creating messaging that reflects these priorities for use in written communications.

12. Partner effectively with marketing/communication colleagues to ensure projects align with strategic priorities.

13. Assist or collaborate on general communication projects as needed.

Physical Requirements:

1. This is largely a sedentary role, which involves sitting most of the time, but may involve movements such as walking, standing, reaching, ascending/descending stairs, and operating office equipment.

2. Frequently required to speak, hear, communicate, and exchange information.

3. Ability to see and read computer displays, read fine print, and/or normal type size print and distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols.

4. Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to operate computer keyboard.

Skills & Abilities:

1. Ability to work at the highest standard of ethical and professional conduct in accordance with the Association of Fundraising Professionals Code of Ethical Principles and Standards, The Donor Bill of Rights, and HIPAA.

2. Ability to effectively collaborate and work as a team with colleagues.

3. Excellent writing skills.

4. Skilled in web-based technologies, including content management systems (CRMs), email marketing campaign distribution and a basic knowledge of HTML programming.

5. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and provide quality service to colleagues and programs.

6. Ability to manage expectations and negotiate challenging situations to arrive at mutually agreeable outcomes.

7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.

8. Intermediate skills in computer publishing and design programs.

9. Working knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) to elevate web presence and departmental communications preferred.

10. Skilled in development for a nonprofit organization, preferably at an academic medical center, and particularly in the areas of donor stewardship, writing and communications.

Job Profile Summary

This role focuses on the marketing activities of the organization, including promoting and marketing healthcare services to the community and supporting business growth by disseminating information that promotes a favorable view of the organization. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Communications duties: Develops and delivers the Tufts Medicine's internal communication strategy so that employees can rapidly identify, send, receive, and understand information. Assists with public relations programs to improve the organization's relations with the public, industry, customers, and employees. A professional individual contributor role that may direct the work of other lower level professionals or manage processes and programs.   The majority of time is spent overseeing the design, implementation or delivery of processes, programs and policies using specialized knowledge and skills typically acquired through advanced education.  An experienced level role that applies practical knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience.  Works independently with general supervision, problems faced are difficult but typically not complex, and may influence others within the job area through explanation of facts, policies and practices.

Pay Range:

 

$66,397.24 - $82,991.27
