OVERVIEW: Our team leaders use their engineering backgrounds to guide nimble engineering teams through exciting, cutting-edge projects to create high performing systems and products.  Projects are almost exclusively high performance, and scope can range from developing a sub-system to a full vehicle.  Degreed engineers with broad program experiences, strong foundations in systems thinking, strong and scalable analytical approaches, and an unrelenting physics and engineering fundamentals backbone are ideal for the Design Engineering Team Lead.  This position will have a focus on gearbox and transmission development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND SKILLS: Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead design engineering efforts using CAD and FEA tools, develop timing plans and task tracking, risk mitigation focused on project deliverables.
  • Lead regular project meetings, both internally and with the customer, to ensure team alignment, consistent communication, and successful project execution.
  • Formal technical reporting on project status to the customer.
  • Responsible for the career development of a team of design engineers.
  • Experience in prototype and production gearbox/transmission design and manufacturing.
  • Knowledgeable in gear, spline, and shaft design, material selection, heat treating, and manufacturing
  • Gearbox system requirements development and decomposition to components.
  • Gearbox key life testing, failure analysis, root cause analysis, design verification, and QA plans

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: In addition to the responsibilities mentioned above, tasks relating to the following area will be assigned as required.

  • System and component design using parametric CAD tools.
  • System and component modeling using Finite Element Analysis tools.
  • CAE optimization methods and tools.
  • Lead system level modeling and simulations efforts.
  • Working level background in MS Word, Excel, MS Project, and PowerPoint required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong technical writing, team leadership skills, and organizational skills.
  • This specific role supports a US DoD topic that is restricted to US Citizens.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • BS or MS in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Aerospace, or Automotive.

DESIRED SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • MS in Mechanical, Aerospace, Automotive Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Previous engineering leadership experience.
  • Experience generating engineering proposals and work estimations.
  • Creo, NX, Catia, or Solidworks CAD experience.
  • Experience in parametric 3D modeling and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • ANSYS, Hypermesh, or other FEA tool experience.
  • KISSsoft or other analytical gear design experience.
  • Dymola or other dynamic gearbox system modelling experience.
  • AGMA gear standards.
  • Active security clearance.
  • 8+ years of engineering experience with focus on the automotive, defense, powersports, or robotics industries.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to support technicians and shop builds.
  • Operate simple hand tools, etc.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

  • 8am-4pm core (minimum) work hours (typically 45hrs per week on average).
  • Project surge support and additional effort as needed to achieve deadlines.
  • Some travel may be required for customer and supplier meetings, off-site training, off-site testing, and attendance at industry conferences.

Pay Range:

$101,100.00 - $166,700.00

The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
