How you will create an impact

Reporting to China Head of Accident & Health, the Deputy Head of Accident & Health (A&H) for China will be responsible for the daily operations of China A&H business, including P&L, strategy development and execution in alignment with global strategy. This role will assist China A&H Head in leading a team of sub 40 and having accountability for talent management and development to support ongoing profitable growth of the over hundred million US dollar China business.

As part of both the Global A&H leadership team and China leadership team, this position will oversee the development and adoption of tactic pieces including but not limited to A&H’s underwriting framework, pricing guardrails, operations, segmentation, risk management, and implementation of best practices. With a strong focus on profitable growth, this leader under the delegation of China Head of A&H will collaborate with distribution, claims, pricing & portfolio management, operations, legal & compliance, and other cross-functional teams to drive a winning action plan, delivering sustainable results while continuing to innovate from both underwriting and product operations / customer servicing standpoints.

Key responsibilities:

Strategic and innovative leadership of A&H in China

  • Execute the strategy in alignment with senior management
  • Lead product development and iteration for digital and analog channel expansion
  • Plan and incentivize the right distribution channels of AIG China to respectively develop and sustain their major distribution partnerships with digital and traditional players
  • Broaden A&H customer base to target SMEs and Individual demographics mainly through digital solutions
  • Drive expansion of product pipeline and penetration as well as underwriting excellence and assurance, e.g. personal accident, supplemental health, and embedded products

Business, financial, operational management to execute on growth and profitability goals

  • Oversee case underwriting, integrated product management to achieve new business and renewal goals, including establishing efficient and timely underwriting and product pipeline, activity, and workflow management
  • Set and manage to budget and financial targets, e.g. Net Premium Written, Combined Ratio, Loss Ratio, General Operating & other Expenses, etc.
  • Provide appropriate governance, infrastructure, modeling, and data measurement tools; ensure consistent adoption and results-driven management decisions
  • Work with Actuarial to lead portfolio and rate reviews; agree and execute corrective action plans as needed
  • Ensure regulatory and legal compliance across A&H; engage with regulators as needed
  • Accountable for consumer right protection and crisis management & complaint handling of A&H cases
  • Instill a growth mindset of continuous improvement - Kaizen

Major Contribution to motivational direct and influence leadership and talent development

  • Develop and retain A&H sub team leads and HIPOs with supporting China A&H Head as lead to acquire the new talent and drive talent plan
  • Promote and model an inclusive, sustainable culture reflective of AIG’s Purpose and Values
  • Build inclusive teams and champion a culture of collaboration, diversity, and results

Effective business and cross-functional partnerships

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with peer A&H leaders in North America, EMEA, Latin America, and APAC as well as peer China leadership team; in particular, work closely with China Head of Personal Insurance on the shared goals
  • Collaborate with technical and operations departments across the wider business, including digitization and data quality initiatives with supporting China Head of A&H as lead to drive
  • Provide operational oversight for large projects and initiatives relevant to A&H
  • Build strong cross-functional partnerships across marketing, sales, claims, finance, legal & compliance, and multinational etc. to define and deploy customer-centric propositions

What you'll need to succeed

  • 15+ years of relevant leadership and P&L experience; proven ability to oversee multiple products, distribution channels, and geographies in a large global organization
  • Deep expertise in Accident & Health insurance, including experience with corporate and individual lines via global and regional broker/agency distribution as well as direct channels
  • Working knowledge of market segmentation, portfolio management, acquisition, distribution, competitors (traditional and emergent) and regulatory considerations relevant to A&H; specific experience in China market
  • Business leader able to translate bold vision into specific objectives and plans
  • Strategic, future-focused commercial mindset with the ability to identify and plan for trends, scenarios, growth drivers, and external events, turning risks in to opportunities
  • Established strong relationships with customers, intermediaries, and regulators; thought leader and brand builder
  • Strong financial and business acumen, analytical, and quantitative skills; able to anticipate and explain financial implications of decisions
  • An inclusive and insightful people leader with a proven track record of managing cross border teams in a matrix organization
  • Organizational intelligence; ability to navigate and influence across a complex global enterprise
  • Advocate for collaboration and ability to form productive partnerships across the organization to advance A&H and AIG China’s overall goals
