We are seeking an experienced Data Scientist (Principal / Sr Principal Data Scientist) to join our dynamic team of technical professionals. The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Mission Systems support team in San Antonio, TX.
Please be aware that this position will be contingent upon capturing program award, obtaining customer funding, and holding final clearances prior to start date.*
What you'll get to do:
- Working as part of a team to design, build and maintain AWS and hybrid-cloud systems
- Administering systems based on Linux and Windows operating systems
- Maintaining and troubleshooting IP networking systems for AWS and hybrid-cloud systems
- Automating system deployment, operation and maintenance using Infrastructure as Code and Configuration Management tooling
This position can be filled at the Principal or Sr. Principal Engineer level.
Basic Qualifications for Principal Cyber Systems Engineer:
- Bachelor’s degree in related STEM discipline with 5 years of experience; Master’s degree related in STEM discipline with 3 years of experience; PhD in related STEM discipline with 1 year of experience in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- U.S. Citizenship required
- A current/active DoD Top Secret w/ SCI eligibility
- Proficient with CI/CD tools (GitLab, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)
- Strong scripting abilities (Python, Bash, PowerShell)
- Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, or private cloud)
- Knowledge of IaC (Terraform, Ansible, Pulumi)
- Deep understanding of SCM, code quality, and test automation (pytest, CTest, JUnit).
- IAT Level II certification (e.g. Security + CE) or ability to obtain within 6 months
Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Cyber Systems Engineer:
- Bachelor’s degree in related STEM discipline with 8 years of experience; Master’s degree related in STEM discipline with 6 years of experience; PhD in related STEM discipline with 4 years of experience in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications for both levels:
- 3 years experience with build tools (i.e., Maven, Ant, GNU make) and/or continuous integration environments (i.e., Jenkins, GitLab, Bamboo) and/or repositories (i.e. Nexus, JFROG)
- 3 years experience with Jira/Confluence in an Agile environment.
- Proficiency with Linux based software development tools.
- 3 years experience with Microsoft and Linux Red Hat operating system.
- 3 years experience with scripting languages (i.e. PERL, Python, Bash, YAML).
- 3 years experience with Kubernetes implementation and Day 2 Operations.
- 3 years experience with VMware Cloud Foundation, Terraform, vCenter, vSphere, or similar Virtual Provisioning.
- 3 years experience with container technologies
- 3 years experience developing and implementing CI/CD Pipelines.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
- Strong critical thinking and logical reasoning skills with the ability to solve issues.
- Working knowledge of Cybersecurity technologies, NIST standards, and RMF governance
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management
- Proven ability to influence and drive adoption of best practices across teams

Primary Level Salary Range: $110,000.00 - $165,500.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $137,500.00 - $206,000.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
