Where does this role fit in?

The Business Data Analyst (Operations Insight) will play a central role in making Ayvens Ireland a more data-driven organisation. Working across all business functions, with a focus on Operations, Commercial, and Finance, the successful candidate will transform raw operational data into clear, actionable insights and valuable business information.

This is a hands-on, practical role — ideal for someone who enjoys understanding how the business works, finding the story behind the numbers, and helping colleagues make better decisions every day. The role bridges the gap between business teams and IT, laying the foundations for future BI maturity and self-service analytics across the organisation. This role focuses on practical, business-driven analytics rather than advanced statistical or machine-learning work.

What will you be doing?

Reporting and Insight

  • Manage the full reporting lifecycle (requirements, design, build, test, deploy, support).
  • Engage with business leads across the organisation to understand reporting needs.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to define KPIs and standardise reporting logic.
  • Develop and maintain operational dashboards and KPI reports in Power BI and Excel.
  • Ensure reports/datasets are version-controlled, documented, aligned with KPI definitions.
  • Automate recurring reports and enhance visibility of performance trends.

Data Sourcing and Quality

  • Work closely with the IT team to extract and integrate data from core OLTP systems.
  • Validate, reconcile, and document data sources, calculations, and transformation logic.
  • Work with data owners to ensure secure, compliant, and efficient access to source data.
  • Identify and drive improvements in data accuracy, consistency, and governance.
  • Contribute to the development of a unified OLAP data model and improved BI tooling.

Process Improvement

  • Analyse trends to highlight inefficiencies or emerging risks.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives with measurable, data-driven insights.
  • Provide analysis and visibility to support operational and strategic decision-making.

Capability Building

  • Help define core building blocks for future BI, including reusable datasets and KPI standards.
  • Collaborate closely with IT teams to improve data accessibility, performance, and structure.

What would our ideal candidate have?

  • 3–5 years’ experience designing, developing, and supporting business reports/dashboards.
  • Proven ability to translate stakeholder need to robust, accurate, and maintainable reporting.
  • Advanced skills in Power BI and Excel (Power Query, data modelling, DAX, automation).
  • Strong SQL capability, working with relational databases such as DB2 and SQL Server.
  • Experience applying version control and documentation standards to reporting deliverables.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement across technical/business teams.
  • Organised, self-driven, able to manage competing deliverables with minimal supervision.

What qualifications or background would be useful?

  • A degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Understanding of data modelling principles, OLAP concepts, and KPI frameworks.
  • Knowledge of data governance and quality management practices.
  • Experience working with data from ERP, business applications, and financial systems.
  • Familiarity with fleet management, motor industry, vehicles, leasing and related businesses.
  • Exposure to scripting or automation tools (e.g., Python, VBA, or Power Automate).
  • A track record of implementing practical BI solutions in complex operational environments.
