Executive Director, Critical Environment Services
Location: San Francisco Bay Area
Position Summary:
We are seeking an Executive Director of Critical Environment Services to lead our global critical environment operations across technology sector clients and 11M sq feet of managed lab spaces. This senior leadership role will oversee the comprehensive strategy, planning, and operations of mission-critical facilities including labs, cleanrooms, research environments, and specialized manufacturing spaces. The successful candidate will establish and lead our Specialized Response Team (SRT) program while driving operational excellence across design, construction, maintenance, and client service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Platform Management
Develop enterprise-wide strategy for critical environment services across all accounts, establishing performance standards, best practices, and governance frameworks that account teams must follow
Institute standardized processes, procedures, and performance metrics for critical environment operations that account teams will implement
Drive adoption of emerging technologies, predictive maintenance strategies, and operational innovations
Optimize resource deployment and investment priorities across the critical environment portfolio to maximize client value and operational efficiency
Support new and existing client solutioning process
Program Development & Standards
Create and implement the SRT designation and certification program, mandating that all accounts with critical environments maintain at least one SRT-certified specialist with advanced training in mission-critical systems
Define competency requirements and training standards for critical environment professionals, ensuring consistent expertise levels
Define strategic approach and standards for design, construction, and commissioning projects, emphasizing accelerated delivery timelines while maintaining quality benchmarks
Develop enterprise-wide risk management protocols, regulatory compliance standards, and emergency response frameworks that account teams deploy locally
Account Oversight & Client Partnership
Provide strategic oversight across multiple client accounts, ensuring consistent service delivery standards and compliance with established protocols while empowering local teams to execute; provide direct support and enhanced involvement for accounts without dedicated critical environment resources
Support the identification, training and growth of on–account specialists to uplevel their skills and knowledge through a consultative approach ensuring each account team is ready to meet the challenges within their portfolio of sites
Engage with client stakeholders and key prospects on strategic initiatives, providing consultative expertise on emerging trends and long-term investment strategies
Establish KPIs, scorecards, and performance benchmarks for critical environment operations, monitoring account-level execution against platform standards
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with FM, Engineering, Technical Services, HSSE, and other business partners to ensure integrated service delivery across all accounts with critical environments
Cross-platform collaboration to drive consistent service excellence and knowledge sharing across the organization
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related technical field
15+ years progressive leadership experience in critical infrastructure and facility operations within technology sector
Deep technical expertise in mechanical, electrical, HVAC, cleanroom, and life safety systems
Proven track record managing large-scale facility projects, equipment installations, and space reconfigurations
Experience with regulatory compliance frameworks and industry standards
Strong capital planning, budgeting, and vendor management capabilities
Demonstrated success in executive stakeholder engagement and cross-functional leadership
Knowledge of predictive maintenance technologies and asset management systems
Preferred Background & Traits:
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Master's degree or MBA
Semiconductor industry experience
Experience with RCM frameworks and failure mode analysis
Global operations experience in key technology markets
Crisis management and emergency response experience
Estimated compensation for this position:
275,000.00 – 315,000.00 USD per yearThis range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
