Critical Care GIG nurses provide staffing support to our PICU's.
Current Children's Wisconsin team members in an hourly position and considering this as a 2nd job, must be at a .8 fte or less
Experience:
- 2+ years pediatric acute care or pediatric critical care bedside nursing experience at Children’s Wisconsin required
- Must have provided bedside care at Children’s Wisconsin within the past 2 years or currently practicing in a pediatric acute or critical direct care role required
- If bedside experience was in NICU or EDTC, will need to complete additional orientation hours for time frame and hourly commitment set by hospital based on skills and competency assessment required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must complete all hospital required education requirements, including passing medication test with a 100% if have not worked at the bedside within the last year.
- Complete required quarterly education and competencies. Quarterly education will be completed virtually twice a year and in-person twice a year. Education schedules for in-person education will be sent when available for sign-up. Failure to complete required education prior to assigned date will result in termination from GIG role.
- Scheduling available on all shifts, however no scheduling requirements for off shifts, weekend, or holidays.
- Scheduling requirement is 16 hours every 90 days with 4 hours of education, but no more than 32 hrs/wk in 90 days.

Adheres to all professional and established hospital standards and maintains compliance with regulatory guidance while delivering patient care. The Gig Nurse role provides supplement staffing for identified critical nursing needs.
Essential Functions
- Identifies and acts upon overt and covert cues of physical, psychosocial, and cognitive parameters by making impendent nursing decisions regarding the integration of medical care plans.
- Performs point-of-care testing and blood collections according to established policies and applicable regulations.
- Applies principles of growth and development when obtaining patient assessment data and communicates in manner most appropriate for children and their families.
- Collaborates with physicians and others to implement case management plans; records variance and communicates with physicians when outcomes are not met.
- Assesses patient/family needs related to patient discharge procedures and identifies and coordinates the resources necessary to accomplish timely patient discharges.
- Understands and applies basic adult learning principles when providing education to patients and their families
- Remains constantly aware of available resources and is accountable for the completion of instruction procedures.
- Evaluates effectiveness of own teaching capabilities and works to continuously improve methods.
- Acts as a valued consultant for clinic staff, entry level medical team members, and physicians.
Education:
- Associate's Degree ADN required
- Bachelor's Degree BSN preferred
