CRE Underwriting - Executive Director

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking an Executive Director to lead a key function within Commercial Real Estate underwriting functions located in India.


In this role, you will:

  • Manage and develop Origination function for Commercial Real Estate (CRE) business within Corporate & Investment Banking.
  • Scope extends across pitching, Idea generation, Origination coverage and underwriting of CRE loans predominantly for US region
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, identify and execute efficiency initiatives
  • Provide training, performance, evaluation and coaching of team members
  • Engage stakeholders and internal partners associated within the business area
  • Lead team to achieve objectives and build a high-performance team
  • Develop strategies to improve staffing processes, ensure specialized functions meet regulatory guidelines in support of risk management and compliance
  • Mentor and guide talent development of direct reports and assist in hiring the right talent

Required Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of Operations experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 3+ years of management or leadership experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of relevant experience in Commercial Real Estate across Underwriting, Asset Management and/or Valuation functions
  • 3+ years of management or leadership experience including leading a team of specialists and Managers
  • Experience setting-up, scaling up and running CRE Underwriting team, preferably with deep understanding of US market
  • Demonstrated exposure to and experience with Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and technologies, including the ability to integrate AI-driven solutions into strategic plans and operational workflows. Track record of leveraging AI for process optimization, decision-making, and innovation. Commitment to fostering AI fluency within teams, promoting AI adoption and driving a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement

Job Expectations:

  • Standardize and streamline UW process across teams
  • Scale-up coverage across sub lines of CRE
  • Ongoing efforts to expand scope of work, plan transitions, absorb and stabilize new streams of work
  • Partner closely with onshore team and central teams driving transitions
  • Train and upskill team to keep pace with scope of work handled and planned
  • Impeccable communication and interpersonal relationship skills with the ability to interact with senior professionals and key stakeholders
  • Ability to interact with integrity and a high level of professionalism with all levels of team members and management
  • Strong logical, analytical skills and a systematic problem-solving approach
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications – Power Point and Excel
  • Strong time management skills and ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
  • Attention to detail and ability to ensure high quality of deliverables
  • Results driven, accountable and ability to work with multiple priorities in a fast-paced and results-driven environment
