About the Carer Gateway Program

Led by Wellways, the Carer Gateway program provides vital support to people caring for family, friends, and kin across Queensland, South-West Sydney, and the Nepean Blue Mountains. Grounded in lived experience, our approach empowers carers to achieve their goals, maintain relationships, and balance responsibilities.

About the Role

As a Carer Gateway Counsellor, you’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering In-person Counselling Services that are inclusive, person-centred, and responsive to the diverse needs of carers.

Your work will include:

  • Providing counselling through in-person sessions, phone, and virtual platforms
  • Travelling to meet carers in their communities
  • You will need to enjoy working in a team, office and hub location.
  • Facilitating therapeutic groups and workshops

Some days you might do five individual 1:1 counselling sessions and on another day, you might travel to a local community centre and facilitate a Grief and Loss Group for carers who have a loved one living with Dementia.

Being skilled in use of Microsoft Teams, Outlook and use of an Information Management System will be an important part of success, alongside your clinical skillset.

What You’ll Need:

  • Accreditation with one of the following:
      - Australian Counselling Association (ACA)
      - Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA)
      - Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) – accredited ordinary member
  • Experience with clinical therapies such as Rogerian and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Background in similar roles, ideally within large or complex organisations
  • Professional indemnity insurance
  • Valid Australian working rights
  • Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel
  • Completion of the NDIS Worker Orientation Module (free online course)
  • Satisfactory National Police Records Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check, and Working with Children Check (Employee/Paid)
  • Ability to use Information Management Systems effectively to uphold Carer Gateway standards of timely, accurate, and person-centred service documentation.
