Wellways is committed to reconciliation, lived experience and inclusivity. We strongly encourage and warmly welcome people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, people with a lived experience of mental health and disability and people who identify as LGBTIQA+ to apply. Even if you only meet some of the criteria, we’d love to hear from you.
Led by Wellways, the Carer Gateway program provides vital support to people caring for family, friends, and kin across Queensland, South-West Sydney, and the Nepean Blue Mountains. Grounded in lived experience, our approach empowers carers to achieve their goals, maintain relationships, and balance responsibilities.
As a Carer Gateway Counsellor, you’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering In-person Counselling Services that are inclusive, person-centred, and responsive to the diverse needs of carers.
Your work will include:
Some days you might do five individual 1:1 counselling sessions and on another day, you might travel to a local community centre and facilitate a Grief and Loss Group for carers who have a loved one living with Dementia.
Being skilled in use of Microsoft Teams, Outlook and use of an Information Management System will be an important part of success, alongside your clinical skillset.
Are you a counsellor who brings warmth, empathy, and a professionalism to every interaction? Do you lead with curiosity? If you can create a safe space with compassion, think creatively, and still find joy at the end of a busy day, we’d love to welcome you to our team.
We’re looking for someone who embraces change with curiosity and optimism. The Carer Gateway space is evolving, and we need a counsellor who can adapt with grace, respond with creativity, and stay grounded while navigating reform. If you see change as an opportunity to grow and innovate, you’ll feel right at home here.
