The Cost Controller plays a key role in providing analytical support and insight for both Operations and Accounts. The individual will be involved in the financial close process, analysis and internal reporting of the financial and operational results.

Position is based in Armstrong BC

Job Description

Responsibilities

•    Lead and manage the cost control function to drive financial efficiency
•    Oversee and analyze variances to earned value and budget reports and provide explanation
•    Development and delivery of Key Performance Indicator (KPI) dashboard
•    Assist in annual budgeting and forecasting process 
•    Partner strategically with Operations and Finance Manager to identify and capitalize on opportunities to enhance operational efficiency while mitigating risks
•    Support other finance team members with review of the accruals and the month-end close
•    Partner with Finance Team to standardize and improve accounting processes and monthly reporting
•    Prepare job costing reports and PO reports and identify existing or potential issues
•    Conduct in-depth cost analysis of completed projects and deliver insightful lessons-learned reports
•    Work closely with Finance Manager to develop monthly operational reporting
•    Evaluating business processes to uncover areas for improvements and work with a team to develop and implement solutions
•    Assemble presentations and effectively present message to various levels of the organization
•    Other Ad-Hoc projects as assigned 

Travel to other sites may be required from time to time

Required Skills and Competencies

•    Accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA, CPA) considered an asset 
•    Prior cost control experience in road maintenance, or infrastructure industry considered an asset
•    5+ years in an analytical role 
•    Independent worker, driven achiever
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
•    Ability to suggest alternatives or challenge assumptions to explore opportunities to exceed plans
•    Solid understanding of financial reporting
•    Advanced to Superior Proficiency with MS office and Excel
•    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - ability to build and maintain positive relationships with project management, financial staff and other departments
•    Continuous improvement mindset
•    Adaptable to rapidly changing environment
•    Experience with Power BI is an asset
•    Experience with Explorer is an asset
