Job Details:

Mercer University is searching for a Coordinator of Recreational Sports and Wellness on the Macon, GA campus.


 

Responsibilities

The Coordinator of Recreational Sports and Wellness plays a key role in the strategic planning, coordination, and delivery of campus-wide recreational and wellness initiatives that foster student engagement, health, and holistic well-being. The position exercises independent judgment in program development, student supervision, and cross-departmental collaboration, and contributes to the operational and strategic goals of the department. The Coordinator will primarily oversee the intramural sports program with secondary responsibilities including coordinating club sport activities. The Coordinator will assist in supervision of other program areas in Recreational Sports and Wellness as needed and will supervise all student staff within the intramural sports program including First Aid and CPR certification training and record keeping for all student employees and sport club leaders.


Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required in sports management, health promotion, recreation, higher education, student affairs, or related field is required, along with one year of relevant experience, which can include internships or student leadership roles.

ASHI (or comparable certifying agency) CPR/FIrst-Aid Instructor certification is required or ability to obtain within six months of hire.

Additionally, candidates must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the university's carrier.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. 

  • Commitment to student development, inclusion, and wellness. 

  • Evening and weekend hours required for events and facility coverage. 

  • Some physical ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to include setting up equipment or participating in programs. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, or as part of a team, and exercise sound judgment in decision-making. 

  • Ability to recruit, hire, train, and develop intramural sports staff including student officials.

  • Ability to oversee marketing and programming in intramural sports program.

  • Ability to assist Sport Club programs in their goals.

  • Ability to travel on university business and must be insurable by the university's carrier.
