The Biogas Sale of Equipment business line within the Global Markets & Technologies Americas requires increased competency associated with Instrumentation and Controls utilized with the systems we design and sell to third party customers and our internal Biogas OTF business line. This role will provide us with the required competency to meet our customers’ increasing expectations including additional process equipment and scope for a more complete plant control system.
It is anticipated that this role will focus approximately 75% of its time with projects being designed and executed with 25% of the time focused on supporting the Field Engineering Service activities. Key responsibilities include writing controls logic and repairing/streamlining existing systems for current and future projects. The candidate would also be responsible for writing the code logic, managing scopes of work and subcontractors as the subject matter expert, and leading efforts for our current equipment skids that are sold internally and externally.
Duties and Responsibilities
Capable of developing, implementing and supporting plant control system hardware, software and field instrumentation in an efficient and safe manner
Demonstrated ability to conduct hands on work on the systems to reduce 3rd party costs for the business
Effective at troubleshooting control system hardware and software and implementing corrective actions independently.
Actively participates in Design Reviews and PHAs as a team member or leader
PLC, DCS and SCADA control system configuration and programming
Responsible for establishing engineering design basis, and assisting with design documentation (e.g. PFDs, P&IDs, equipment and instrument specification sheet, process package, MOC, interlock matrix, functional design specification) for both new and existing facilities while following department standards
Capable of assisting with loop tests, and interlock tests performed for new processes and for yearly ISO testing for calibration and interlock checks
Understanding of electrical distribution and power loading in industrial control systems
Lead the controls standardization efforts of having supplier options other than conventional suppliers. Lead efforts to deliver the complete control system for projects.
Lead the SOE controls projects to completion - Including Project based redlines/ design changes/ program changes - PLC and HMI) and updating the relevant project documents.
FAT - Travel to vendor for Control panel FATs
Site start up and commissioning support - Travel to Skid manufacturer for FAT of control panel with Skid integration. Travel to site for commissioning of the skid or support remotely..
Assist in the development, commissioning, and operation of plant control system hardware, software and field instrumentation in an efficient and safe manner
Lead the field support and troubleshooting of control system hardware and software, and implementing corrective actions independently. Support of the OTF plants during emergencies.
Maintain accurate and complete project records.
Other duties, as required, in support of growing Air Liquide’s Biogas business.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in chemical, mechanical, or electrical engineering or equivalent
5+ years of relevant experience, including programming PLC/DCS for chemical plant design and operation as well as process data collection and distribution for wider corporate use
Possess good knowledge of field instruments and working of transmitters, Gas analyzers and control valves.
Candidate should have knowledge of applicable codes and standards for process control hardware and software (e.g. UL listing, NEC, etc.) as applied to hazardous materials handling and manufacture
Experience with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix hardware and software.
Familiar with procurement, installation and testing of Communication Devices for Internet and Intranet Connectivity
Experience with the development and interpretation of electrical schematics, and experience in developing and deploying ethernet based industrial networks
Highly motivated and results-driven; drives a culture of "Do It Safe, Do It Right the First Time" with their actions and their words on a daily basis
20-40% domestic and international travel for commissioning and support
Demonstrates strong process and operational safety behavior at all times.
Additional experience with FactoryTalk HMI, GE Proficy HMI is preferred but not required
Experience with Siemens automation systems, including Siemens PCS-7
Experience with Wonderware and Wonderware Historian
Experience in a rapid-growth environment
Good understanding and knowledge of OT/IT networking.
Possess good understanding of MOdbus/TCP-IP/Ethernet/Profinet and other communication protocols
Knowledge and experience on PID loop tunings.
Trained in standard procedures for safe gas and chemical handling
Chemical plant operation experience strongly preferred
Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to multi-task
Team player with leadership abilities.
Experience with operations within continuous process plant environment.
Self-starter with the ability to perform well under pressure and continuously changing priorities
Problem solving and decision making skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
