The Consultant Relationship Manager plays a pivotal role in driving Northern Trust’s strategic growth by developing and managing relationships with consultants and Centres of Influence (CoIs) across EMEA.
This position is responsible for ensuring consultants are well-informed about Northern Trust’s strategy, credentials, and differentiated market propositions, and for fostering partnerships that support both Northern Trust’s and clients’ strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Relationship Development: Build and manage a portfolio of consultant and CoI relationships influential to the growth of Northern Trust’s asset servicing business.
- Strategic Alignment: Educate consultants on Northern Trust’s strategy and market propositions; partner with them to align on mutual strategic goals.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Strategy, EMEA Business Development, and Relationship Managers to optimize new business opportunities, including managing consultant-led RFPs and due diligence questionnaires.
- Campaign Planning: Deliver an annual consultant/CoI engagement plan through targeted campaigns, meetings, events, newsletters, and ad-hoc communications.
- Internal Coordination: Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure consistent and relevant messaging and activities.
- Market Intelligence: Capture and communicate consultant intelligence and feedback, disseminating insights to the business.
- Client Service: Act as the first point of contact for consultant enquiries, maintaining high satisfaction levels.
- Event Support: Support and deliver high-quality events and forums for the consulting sector.
- Reporting: Track and report on consultant relationships, engagement history, sales opportunities, and success rates; contribute to internal engagement snapshots and newsletters.
- Thought Leadership: Recommend product/service enhancements and suggest thought leadership pieces based on consultant feedback.
- Industry Engagement: Exchange viewpoints with consultants on industry trends and share subject matter expertise.
The ideal candidate should have a fair amount of the following skills & experience:
- Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to engage senior influencers strategically.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
- Commercial acumen and negotiation skills, with a sound understanding of Northern Trust’s role in the financial services ecosystem.
- Industry knowledge, especially in asset servicing, and strong networking ability within the consultant community.
- Outstanding ability to network, establish, develop, and maintain trust-based relationships with key stakeholders while maintaining high ethical standards.
- Self-starter with strong time management, able to work both collaboratively and independently.
- High integrity and commitment to treating customers fairly.
- Creative thinker with a commercial mindset and a passion for winning business.
- Leadership presence, able to instil confidence and partner effectively with stakeholders.
- Ability to talk to pertinent industry themes and align to Northern Trust’s capabilities.
- Proven experience in a Consultancy Role, or Change Management Role.
- Prior experience working in an Optimisation of Asset managers target operating model.
- Proven track record of managing external relationships, ideally in a sales channel context.
- Experience with institutional clients, including asset managers and asset owners.
