About the Opportunity

Amentum provides client-oriented solutions across our environment, energy, and defence businesses. With a strong order book and a diverse, exciting portfolio of projects across the UK and internationally, we need to expand our team of environmental specialists across multiple disciplines required to deliver a project lifecycle—from new build and operations through to decommissioning and site end use. We offer opportunities for significant career advancement, attractive remuneration, and flexible working, as well as leadership and client relationship role development.

We are looking for a Land Quality Consultant professional to support our ongoing contaminated land and decommissioning projects across our environment, energy and defence businesses. In this role, you will work closely with senior colleagues to gain hands-on experience in site investigations, data interpretation, risk assessments, and remediation design. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your technical skills and progress in a highly regulated and dynamic field.

We offer flexible working arrangements (a mix of office-based and home working). This role can be based in Harwell, Rotherham, Cumbria or Birchwood.

Key Responsibilities

  • Field Work & Data Collection: Participate in site investigations (soil, groundwater, gas monitoring), collecting samples and logging data accurately.

  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Assist in interpreting field and laboratory results, contributing to conceptual site models (CSMs) and preliminary risk assessments for human health and controlled waters.

  • Collaboration: Work alongside senior consultants and project managers, following instructions and meeting deadlines.

  • Regulatory Awareness: Learn and apply relevant UK environmental legislation, guidance, and codes of practice, including Part 2A, the Environmental Permitting Regulations, and CL:AIRE DoWCoP.

  • Health & Safety Compliance: Adhere to strict HSE requirements, both on-site and in office environments, ensuring you and your colleagues maintain safe working conditions.

  • Professional Development: Seek opportunities to broaden your technical knowledge (through project work, training, and mentoring), and actively engage in personal development plans.

Here's What You'll Need

Below are the qualifications and experience that we’re seeking in applicants. We understand that not everyone will meet every single requirement, so if you believe you have most of the relevant experience and strong potential to succeed in this role, we’d love to hear from you.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Environmental Science, Geoscience, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree is advantageous but not essential.

  • Early Career Experience: Some experience (via internships, placements, or entry-level roles) in contaminated land or environmental consultancy is desirable but not mandatory.

  • Technical Aptitude: Basic understanding of site investigation techniques, risk assessment principles, and relevant environmental legislation, with a willingness to learn quickly.

  • Teamwork & Communication: Ability to work effectively in a team setting, following guidance from more experienced colleagues, with good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Analytical Skills: Comfortable handling data, using basic software tools (e.g., Excel, GIS), and producing clear, concise reports under supervision.

  • Motivation & Growth Mindset: Keen interest in developing a career in land quality and an enthusiasm for continuous learning, including willingness to travel to different project sites.

  • Other: A valid UK driving licence (or ability to obtain one in the near future) is beneficial.

This position offers a supportive environment for building foundation skills in contaminated land consultancy. You will have the opportunity to work on complex, high-profile projects while developing your technical expertise and professional competencies under the mentorship of experienced practitioners.
