Overview
The Director for Laboratory oversees the Riverside Regional Medical Center Laboratory Services as well as the Laboratory Services of RHS's Centralized Lab. This role is under the supervision of the RRMC Administrator and CMO. The Director designs and implements a full range of laboratory and pathology (Lab) services appropriate to the variety and intensity of RHS settings. The Director ensures that such services optimize quality, safety, and service characteristics as are available in high performing and similarly situated settings, and that are consistent with the Riverside Care Difference. The Director is responsible for establishing and monitoring metrics that reflect these outcomes. The Director is expected to achieve the appropriate balance of clinical efficacy, service and financial performance by optimizing departmental activities through best practice adoption. The Director ensures a highly trained workforce across all settings. The position requires knowledge in leadership, administrative and informatics duties, principles of effective teaching and learning, fiscal management, and effective interpersonal relations and communication. The Director is responsible for assigned clinical areas' product and contract management and works in conjunction with Supply Chain Management to streamline product usage, improve efficiencies and reduce costs. This position ensures process improvement and drives standardization with policies and procedures. Maintains current knowledge in area(s) of clinical supervision, determines workforce needs/patterns, interview/hire/discipline personnel, develop yearly budget and strategic plans , provide leadership in compliance with applicable regulatory, state, federal, accreditation and safety standards. Provide leadership in growth and development of new services in area(s) of clinical responsibilities. In collaboration with the Medical Director (pathologist), this position is responsible for the technical, financial, compliance and Human Resource aspects of the full-service Anatomic and Clinical Pathology laboratories at RRMC/RHS centralized laboratory. The Director is responsible for organizing, planning, directing and evaluating services/operations/care provided with a core focus on facility and associated departments/units/centers. The Director works through leadership to provide administrative oversight and direction in the provision of a comprehensive range of services and clinical care associated and in accordance with standards of excellence established by Riverside Health system as well as goals and strategic plans. The Director provides leadership and mentorship/support to the staff of the department. The Director works closely with the Medical Director to provide for the needs of the patients and customers as it relates to Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. The Director ensures awareness and compliance with applicable regulatory, state, federal, accreditation and safety standards.

What you will do
  • Participates/oversees the yearly and future planning and monitoring of the budget for defined areas to include appropriate resource allocation determination/capital acquisitions/expense allocation. Reviews variance reports, responses to analysis/trending with action plans which support departmental budget goals.
  • Continuously improve the delivery and outcomes of comprehensive, quality, personalized patient experience in accordance with patient safety standards. Collaborates with leaders to identify opportunities and barriers for quality and service. Continually evaluates/plans/acquires and implements where appropriate new services/technologies to maintain RHS services recognized as technology leaders.
  • Leads the development, maintenance, and systemization of policies, job aides, and clinical services provided by Laboratory Services.
  • Facilitates a collaborative environment that maximizes interdepartmental cooperation for positive results. Collaborates with physicians and physician office staff to provide for the specialized needs of the diverse patient care populations served.
  • Monitor and analyze data to ensure successful financial performance targets. Collaborate with facility financial leads to identify opportunities for charge capture and cost reduction initiatives for Laboratory Services.
  • Collaborates with Laboratory department and Facility Leadership to develop adequate staffing matrix which supports advanced certifications, cross training/competencies and aligns with productivity benchmarks consistent with best practice and internal trend comparisons.
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide a safe, efficient and supportive environment for the team members. Uses appropriate protective equipment, body mechanics and follows safety guidelines and procedures. Identifies and acts to resolve variances and reports suspected noncompliance to management.
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide either direct and/or consultative services for accreditation readiness and adherence to regulatory standards and requirements specific to the Clinical and Anatomic pathology laboratory (i.e. CAP, CLIA, etc.). Helps to identify and acts to resolve variances and reports suspected noncompliance to management.
  • Evaluates and implements capital acquisition and renovation/building projects as approved by senior leadership and/or the facility boards.

Education
  • Bachelors Degree, Related Field (Required)
  • Masters Degree, (Preferred)

  • Recent relevant experience (Required)
