Conservation Education and Outreach Specialist

Performs a variety of technical and customer service functions to assist with the implementation of the Water Utility’s conservation program; will primarily assist in water conservation education and outreach efforts by participating in community and school events, may assist in conducting residential irrigation system checkups and assist customers with controller settings; performs inspections relative to water programs; provide customer service support; and assist with violation cases.

  • Communicates and interacts with the public to promote an understanding of water conservation.

  • Leads and/or assists with water conservation education presentations and events.

  • Identifies conservation educational and informational needs.

  • Develops educational programming for the community.

  • Assists in planning, coordination and facilitation of water conservation events.

  • Maintains education and outreach materials.

  • Assists in conducting irrigation system audits, evaluating consumption data, recommending irrigation controller settings and suggesting more efficient water usage options.

  • Utilize software to assist in customer service support

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, training and Experience Guidelines

Must have education and outreach experience in the community and school districts. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.  OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Knowledge of:

  • Water efficiency technologies, practices, programs and rebate requirements.

  • Safety practices and procedures.

  • Federal, State and Local water conservation laws, regulations, practices and techniques.

Skill in:

  • Communicating effectively, orally and in writing.

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

  • Planning and goal setting.

  • Using computer and related software.

  • Implementing programs and related policies and procedures.

  • Making judgments pertaining to repair needs and supply needs.

  • Finding safe effective solutions to problems.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Valid Class "C" Texas driver’s license required. Out-of-state license holders must have a valid license and provide a three-year driving history.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls. This role is considered an essential employee working with the water utility and may be required to work in inclement weather situations.

Hiring Range: $25.84 - $32.37, hourly.
