Configuration Engineer (Salesforce)

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) manages the efficient flow of electricity on more than 11,000 circuit-miles of high-voltage transmission lines, dispatching power from hundreds of generating units across the state.

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) applies cutting-edge technology to operating a reliable electricity system, managing competitive markets for wholesale electricity, and planning for the Empire State's energy future.  The NYISO’s Information Technology department invites applications for a full-time Configuration Engineer (Salesforce).

The Configuration Engineer is primarily responsible for Salesforce platform administration and support. This role ensures system integrity, security, disaster recovery, and optimal performance for Salesforce and related platforms. The administrator creates and communicates platform standards and procedures, leads or participates in project teams, and collaborates with Salesforce Admins, Software Engineers, QA analysts, and end users from various business teams.

Additional responsibilities may include supporting internal custom software applications, Python scripting for power systems engineering tools, and contributing to software testing efforts.

On-site presence at least three days per week is expected.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Salesforce Platform Administration & Support

  • Support existing customer portals and maintain access/functionality for users.
  • Administer and configure connected apps supporting the Salesforce platform.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations for Salesforce and connected applications, including systematic patching and upgrades to maintain a secure environment.
  • Monitor data quality and integrity within Salesforce, identifying and resolving data issues.
  • Establish and communicate Salesforce platform standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Provision and control user permissions and privileges.
  • Create and maintain reports and dashboards to provide insights into platform performance and usage.
  • Maintain and test platform backup and recovery plans.
  • Participate in internal/external audit reviews to validate proper controls and compliance.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Project Work

  • Work closely with Salesforce Admins, Software Engineers, QA analysts, and business end users to gather and understand requirements.
  • Configure Salesforce using native tools (Flows, Email Alerts, Lightning App Builder) to meet business needs and improve user experience.
  • Create and maintain custom objects, fields, formulas, validation rules, workflows, and approval processes.
  • Develop and maintain APIs for system integration.
  • Participate in ongoing IT strategic planning with a primary focus on Salesforce platform technologies.

Software Development & Scripting (Plus Skills)

  • Support internal custom software applications as needed.
  • Contribute Python scripting for power systems engineering tools (willingness to learn is sufficient).
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and deployment of software solutions.

Testing & Quality Assurance

  • Collaborate with team members to design, write, execute, and automate tests for software projects.
  • Develop and maintain tools for testing.
  • Monitor and manage incidents and problems within platforms, ensuring timely resolution.

Continuous Improvement & Work Habits

  • Provide ongoing support and training to Salesforce users, troubleshooting issues and implementing enhancements.
  • Stay current with Salesforce updates, new features, and best practices; recommend and implement improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Salesforce Administrator.
  • Strong understanding of Salesforce architecture, APIs, security, and data modeling.
  • Proven experience in software development using Python, Kotlin, or Java is a plus
  • Experience in the energy industry or with NYISO systems is a plus.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Salesforce Administrator and Administrator certification preferred but not required.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical documents. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to market participants, department managers and other employees.
  • General level of competency in Windows operating environment using MS Office applications, such as Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, e-mail, and internet programs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to perform routine office tasks. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Contact with staff and public will occur. Travel may be required to attend and/or conduct meetings, conferences, and training.­­­­­­­­­­­­ May require work on nights, weekends, or holidays.
