As an Industrial Placement in Commercial Strategy:
Working with the Commercial team, the Commercial Strategy Industrial Placement will support the strategic direction of the commercial programme of the Mercedes-AMG Formula One Team (and associated properties). The Industrial Placement will support on and take ownership of various strategic commercial projects under the guidance of senior team members.
This is a unique opportunity for someone to work in a high-performance environment in elite-level sport, top-tier global sports marketing and commercial business strategy. This role will support strategy development across the entire commercial business: sponsorships, strategic partnerships, merchandise and licensing, e-commerce and retail, CRM, e-sports, sustainability and ED&I initiatives and leisure & entertainment.
Support the development of commercial strategy by:
Supporting analysis and blue-sky thinking to develop new revenue opportunities
Conducting strategic, qualitative, and quantitative evaluations of such opportunities
Reporting on developments and trends in the global business landscape and partner network
Benchmarking Team against competitors in F1 and other leading sports that we compete with (Premier league, NBA, NFL, leading Champions League teams) and broader entertainment industry
Conducting and identifying takeaways and recommendations from internal and external research
Support sponsorship sales process with:
Sponsor target lists featuring companies/brands within specific sectors tiered by propensity to sponsor the team (based on financial results, corporate strategy, market fit)
Broader research on companies within the sales funnel
Data-led content that supports sponsorship proposals
Provide overall administrative support including:
Event planning, gifting and SAP
Essential:
As a minimum, the successful candidate must have completed at least one year of undergraduate studies, and must have at least one year of academic studies left (undergraduate or postgraduate) at the time of taking up your placement with us in June 2026.
Confident communicator, highly articulate, and socially dynamic with the motivation and resilience to handle this highly challenging and fast paced environment
Proactive approach and ability to work both independently and as a part of a broader project team
Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritise & manage multiple projects and stakeholders at once
Able to work in a high-performance environment and deliver against challenging deadlines
Willingness to learn new approaches and adapt to different working styles
Desirable:
Strong MS Excel skills – confident with data analysis
Strong MS PowerPoint skills to enable development of insightful and recommendation driven presentations
Quantitative degree from University
Interest or experience in sports business and/or e-commerce / marketing / digital media/ leisure & entertainment/ sustainability
Skills you could gain from your placement include:
