Role Overview
We are launching a new buying platform to replace the current system used by over 300 pharmacies. This is a pivotal project and a cornerstone of our future wholesale growth strategy, ensuring pharmacies gain access to the best possible commercial opportunities in an increasingly competitive market. A key part of the role will be the analysis of competitor procurement offerings and live price comparisons, ensuring customers clearly see the advantages of our platform. The Commercial Manager will be responsible for the end-to-end management, commercial optimisation, and growth of the platform. This includes delivering an excellent user experience and ensuring the platform continuously reflects market-leading value.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Management & Operations
Oversee the migration from the existing pharmacy buying platform to the new system, ensuring a seamless transition for 300+ pharmacies.
Manage installs, onboarding, and ongoing user support.
Work with technology partners to optimise platform usability, functionality, and reliability.
Provide input into web layout and design, ensuring the interface is intuitive and pharmacy-friendly.
Pharmacy & Supplier Engagement
Act as an independent assessor of supplier pricing, ensuring transparency and fairness for pharmacies.
Consolidate and act on feedback from pharmacies and suppliers to continuously improve the platform.
Build and maintain strong relationships with pharmacies, ensuring their buying needs are represented in the platform roadmap.
Assist the wholesale sales team on supplier on preparation of business proposals
Commercial Insight, Negotiation & Competitor Analysis
Apply strong commercial acumen to identify, evaluate, and highlight supplier deals that deliver margin improvements for pharmacies.
Benchmark supplier pricing and product ranges against competitors, providing live comparisons to demonstrate platform value to potential and existing customers.
Continuously monitor competitor procurement platforms, promotions, and market offerings, ensuring our platform stays ahead in terms of pricing and product range.
Process Optimisation & Adoption
Define and refine buying workflows tailored to pharmacy procurement behaviours.
Drive adoption and compliance across the pharmacy network through training, support, and communications.
Consolidate user feedback into actionable improvements for both commercial and technical aspects of the platform.
Strategic Growth & Development
Position the platform as a key driver of wholesale expansion and customer loyalty.
Lead the commercial roadmap, prioritising features, suppliers, and categories based on market dynamics and pharmacy demand.
Monitor KPIs such as pharmacy adoption rates, supplier participation, savings delivered, competitive positioning, and wholesale contribution.
Keep abreast of changing pharmaceutical and wholesale market offerings, ensuring the platform remains at the forefront of customer value.
Skills & Experience
Strong commercial acumen with a proven ability to deliver competitive outcomes.
Expertise in product negotiation and independent assessment of supplier pricing.
Demonstrated ability in supplier negotiations and contract management.
Experience in competitor procurement analysis, including the delivery of live comparative insights for customers.
Background in overseeing platform installs, user onboarding, and migrations.
Knowledge of web layout and design, ensuring user-friendly buying journeys.
Strong skills in feedback consolidation, translating stakeholder input into platform improvements.
Experience in pharmacy, pharmaceutical wholesale, procurement, or healthcare retail strongly preferred.
Desirable
Hands-on experience with pharmacy procurement processes, pricing dynamics, and wholesale operations.
Knowledge of Irish and EU pharmacy market trends.
Familiarity with buying/procurement platforms, e-procurement tools, or digital marketplaces.
