We are seeking a CNC Process Specialist – Roll Shop to join our team at our plant located in Pueblo, Colorado. As a CNC Process Specialist, you will support roll shops and production across Rocky Mountain Steel Mills. This role requires experience in CNC programming, calibrating, and operating lathes, as well as traditional machining methods for large metal components. You will work closely with production and engineering teams to optimize machining processes and improve efficiency site-wide. This position reports to the Superintendent, Rail I & Rail II.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, edit, and optimize CNC programs for lathes, mills, and grinders.
  • Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and engineering models to ensure accuracy in machining processes.
  • Set up and test programs on machines to verify precision, accuracy and functionality.
  • Develop and improve roll pass design processes for rolling mills ensuring accuracy and best practices.
  • Work with engineers, machinist and maintenance teams to ensure a seamless production flow and resolve technical issues as needed.
  • Analyze machining operations and suggest improvements for quality, efficiency, and cost-savings where needed.
  • Maintain proper documentation of programs, setups and tooling requirements.
  • Lead Roll Shop operations through collaboration with production and engineering teams in maintenance scheduling, inspections and roll inventory management,
  • Contribute to engineering projects such as equipment upgrades, tooling design, process development and implementation as needed site wide.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 3 years experience as a CNC programmer, preferably in the steel or metals industry.
  • Associates degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing technology or related field plus 5 years working experience or bachelors degree plus 3 years working experience preferred.
  • Experience working with engineering principles, machining processes and metallurgy
  • Rolling Pass Design process experience a plus
  • Hands on experience in a roll-shop preferred
  • Advanced experience in CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, GibbsCAM, NX, G-code) for small to large-scale parts preferred
  • Strong understanding of G-code, M-code, and multi-axis programming required
  • Skilled in working with hardened steels, castings, and forged components preferred
  • Experience with large work holding, crane rigging, and safe handling of oversized components required
  • Advanced knowledge and ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and mechanical drawings.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, CMMs, etc.)
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methods.
  • The work environment is protected from weather conditions but subject to temperature variations.
  • Physical ability to perform medium work, including lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally and 30 lbs. frequently.​

Compensation

  • $63,000 - $85,000
