Who We Are
The Comparative Medicine Program (CMP) enhances excellence in research and teaching at Texas A&M through high quality animal care. We provide a variety of services to researchers at the university through standard and specialized facilities. These services include the procurement of animals and animal husbandry supplies, provision of veterinary care, use of CMP surgical facilities, a polyclonal antibody production service, technical support services, and animal use training services. What We Want
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a CMP Technical Services Specialist I. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in animal husbandry and animal health procedures such as basic first aid or assisting a veterinary medical professional. This role will require a strong understanding of para-veterinary procedures, breeding colony management, technical support for research activities, and a drive to learn new skills. We value candidates who are collaborative, organized, and committed to maintaining high standards in animal care, research support, and facility operations.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
Associates Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two years of progressively responsible experience in a biomedical research environment with a strong emphasis on animal health.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of animal care and safety processes.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Responsibilities
CMP Assistance- Assists with animal health treatments and maintaining associated clinical health records. Assists with the daily care of breeding colonies, selection of new breeders, and maintaining breeding records. Places orders for and receives new laboratory animals and coordinates research animal transfers. Provides technical assistance for polyclonal and monoclonal antibody production. Assists in staff training activities. Assists with preventative medicine program submissions of live/dead animals, tissue samples, and cell culture specimens. Assists with quarantine management.
Para-Veterinary- Performs para-veterinary health care procedures. Assists with surgical and post-surgical monitoring and care assistance procedures.
CMP Support- Assists with quality control testing for systems, material, and space sanitation. Provides maintenance of Rodent Health Surveillance (RHS) program.
Other Requirements and Factors:
Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system.
This position is security sensitive.
This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures.
All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirement.
Must be able to work outside of normal business hours, such as Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday through Thursday.
Must work weekends and holidays as required.
