Summary
The Swine Medicine Education Center (SMEC) is seeking a dedicated Program Specialist I to advance swine medicine through applied research, curriculum development, and operational support. This role involves conducting field investigations of disease outbreaks, collecting and processing swine specimens, and ensuring biosecurity protocols are followed. The Program Specialist I will assist in training students, developing educational materials, and supervising animal care during research trials. Additionally, the role includes financial and administrative responsibilities such as grant management, budgeting, and tracking resource utilization. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in swine health, proficiency with research protocols, and a commitment to ensuring compliance with ethical standards in animal research.
What You'll Do:
Applied Research
- Conduct research projects that address swine health challenges and investigate disease outbreaks.
- Collect and process specimens, perform humane euthanasia when necessary, and analyze data to generate actionable insights.
- Present your findings to stakeholders and funding agencies, making a real-world impact.
Curriculum Development
- Develop training materials such as videos, graphics, and presentations for on-farm and classroom instruction.
- Support instructors during hands-on training sessions, ensuring student and animal safety.
- Mentor students on practical skills and evaluate course materials for clarity and effectiveness.
Business and Finance
- Assist with billing, grant management, and budget preparation.
