As a Family Time Coordinator, you'll play a vital role in supporting caseworkers and handling administrative duties, making a meaningful impact every day.

We are seeking a Family Time Coordinator (Social Service Assistant) to join our Albany Child Welfare team.

Note: this position will receive a Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) increase of 6.55% which is not reflected in the salary listed in this posting. The effective date of the increase is January 1, 2025 for February 1, 2025 paychecks.

Summary of Duties

As a Family Time Coordinator, you will:

  • Gather and document information from the caseworker, children, parents, relatives, case providers, schools, and other resources to plan family time visits.

  • Meet with parents and caregivers to review family time agreements and guidelines.

  • Supervise family time between children, parents, and family members in an office setting, in parent’s homes, or in a community setting.

  • Observe and document family time.

  • Transport children to family time. Occasionally, you will assist with transporting children to other appointments as needed.

  • Collaborate with Caseworkers to assess level and location of family time supervision on an on-going basis.

  • Participate and attend meetings related to family/team decision making.

Minimum Qualifications

  • One year experience assisting professionals in one or more specialized social programs such as family services, children services, senior services, mental or developmental disability services, substance abuse programs, juvenile corrections programs, or occupational skills programs; OR

  • Possession of a current certification in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Addiction Counseling Preparation, or Juvenile Corrections; OR

  • 45 quarter hours, or 30 semester hours of college course work in sociology, psychology, early childhood education, criminal justice, human services, juvenile corrections, or occupational skills training; OR

  • An associate degree in a field not closely related to Social Work/Human Services and six months of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, mental or physical disabilities, juvenile prevention, health, cultural competencies, and/or inadequate housing).

  • Communication Skills: Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with the public, service providers, and clients through both verbal and written communication.

  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to easily adapt to changing environments and priorities, excelling in fast-paced situations that require quick decisions.

  • Trauma-Informed Approach: Experience in making sound judgments and developing effective solutions with a trauma-informed and culturally aware perspective.

  • Cultural Awareness: Demonstrated ability to understand and value each child and family’s cultural uniqueness.

  • Accurate Documentation: Experience in maintaining accurate observations and supervision notes, ensuring clear and concise documentation with minimal spelling or grammar errors in databases.

Working Conditions

  • Work Locations: Offices, homes of participants, and community sites. This is not a remote position.

  • Travel: Occasional travel for meetings, trainings, and other case related activities. This includes required occasional overnight travel.

  • Hours: Regular work week with fluctuating hours; occasional overtime may be needed, including evenings and weekends.

  • Physical Requirements: Frequent physical activity, including lifting up to 50 pounds and assisting children with car seats.

  • This role involves handling sensitive topics related to trauma, abuse, and crises, requiring a trauma-informed approach that is essential to ensure a safe environment.

  • You may interact with individuals who have experienced trauma and may have difficulty managing their emotions.

  • Be prepared for stressful situations that require quick decision-making to ensure safety for yourself and others.
