As Legal Counsel, Corporate Underwriting, your role is to ensure the company does not exceed its risk tolerance in the issuance of policies of title insurance. In addition to providing expertise in the underwriting of specific orders for title insurance, Legal Counsel assists all product groups within the company in the design and implementation of new product offerings. Legal Counsel also participates in customer meetings to explain title insurance coverage, underwriting, and claims.
HERE’S HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE:
- Review applications for both residential and commercial title insurance
- Draft endorsements to fit particular insurance situations
- Field customer inquiries regarding coverage matters
- Assist in drafting new forms of policies and other products
- Research questions of real estate law in all Canadian jurisdictions
- Provide advice to the company’s business groups on underwriting matters
HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
- Member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario or another provincial law society (3 to 8 years’ experience in real estate law);
- Bilingualism (French/English) an asset but not required;
- Willingness to quickly adapt to change;
- The ability to juggle multiple priorities, tasks, and make decisions in a fast paced environment;
- High degree of accuracy and follow-through in completing work assignments.
