What We Offer
The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $82,540 - $136,191/ye. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location
Appointee positions with the City and County of Denver will require in-person attendance. We believe that being together in the same physical space allows us to listen more effectively, learn from one another, and take action more quickly by fostering strong relationships. Therefore, we prioritize in-person collaboration and value face-to-face interactions. Our office does not operate remotely.
What You'll Do
As the Associate Outreach Director with the Mayor's Office, you will be instrumental in strengthening community engagement by creating and executing strategies that foster connections between the City of Denver and its diverse population. This role involves collaborating closely with community leaders, stakeholders, and city departments to ensure that all perspectives are heard and community needs are addressed in city initiatives.
Your work will be crucial in driving positive change, promoting transparency, and delivering timely information that links residents with the city’s administration. We are committed to providing outstanding services to our citizens while achieving outcomes that benefit the public interest. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker capable of developing innovative and nuanced solutions to complex challenges. You will provide visionary leadership, proactively identify potential obstacles, and continuously evaluate the effectiveness of our outreach and engagement strategies.
Specifically, as the Associate Outreach Director, you will act on:
Outreach and Engagement Strategy: Support the development of engagement strategies alongside the Mayor’s Outreach Director. Lead the creation and execution of internal engagement systems and processes to foster stronger community connections.
Data and Reporting: Lead the analysis and presentation of data to demonstrate the impact of outreach initiatives and community engagement efforts.
Special Projects: Oversee and direct citywide public engagement projects from concept to implementation, ensuring alignment with community goals.
External Engagement: Develop and implement strategies to engage residents, local businesses, and community organizations in ongoing neighborhood initiatives.
What You'll Bring
Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
Outreach Strategy: Possesses proven experience in developing and implementing grassroots community engagement models. Has a strong understanding of widely used community engagement frameworks and the ability to adapt them to achieve specific goals. Demonstrates expertise in designing and delivering internal and external training sessions while creating accessible content and overseeing implementation. Experienced in facilitating diverse session types, including listening forums, information-sharing, collaborative decision-making, and co-creation workshops.
Data and Reporting: Proven ability to develop and monitor impact metrics that evaluate the success of community-led initiatives. Possesses a strong understanding of qualitative data collection and analysis techniques, utilizing community-driven data to inform actionable solutions and achieve measurable outcomes. Actively contributes to the design of strategic frameworks that enhance the Outreach team's planning, execution, and evaluation processes.
Strategic thinker: Demonstrates the ability to create and articulate a clear, long-term vision for community outreach and engagement, aligning initiatives with the overarching goals of the city and its residents.
Good Decision Making: Demonstrates a strong ability to make informed decisions quickly and effectively, even when faced with incomplete data or uncertain circumstances.
Foster Stakeholder Relationship : Experience cultivating and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders to gather insights and perspectives and using this information to anticipate community concerns and obstacles in outreach efforts.
Adaptability and Flexibility: Demonstrates the ability to adjust to changing priorities, work environments, and tasks with a positive attitude, while remaining focused on achieving goals and maintaining high-quality standards.
Resource Management: Demonstrated ability to allocate resources strategically, ensuring that outreach initiatives are well-supported and equipped to overcome anticipated challenges.
External Engagement: You will bring a strong ability to design and implement effective outreach initiatives that resonate with Denver’s diverse communities, ensuring inclusivity and meaningful impact. Your exceptional relationship-building skills will foster trust and collaboration with residents, local organizations, and stakeholders.
Outstanding Verbal and Written communication Skills: You possess effective facilitation abilities, allowing you to lead community meetings and workshops that encourage open dialogue and active participation. You have a knack for creating clear, engaging communication materials that effectively convey key messages to various audiences.
Political Awareness: A solid grasp of local government structures, policies, and political dynamics is essential. Knowledge of the Mayor's priorities, objectives, and key stakeholders will aid in effectively navigating the political landscape and enhancing strategic decision-making contributions.
Teamwork and Collaboration: Must be a collaborative team player capable of effectively working with diverse individuals, including Mayor’s Office staff, government departments, and external partners. Solid experience coordinating and integrating messaging across various platforms and channels.
Cultural Competency: Demonstrates cultural competency and a strong awareness of equity issues, essential for effectively engaging with Denver's diverse community. They must be able to create communication strategies that resonate with various populations, promote inclusivity, and incorporate equity considerations into messaging and outreach efforts.
Ability to Build Strategic Partnerships: You will also bring the ability to identify and build strategic partnerships, ensuring collaborative efforts that address community needs, as well as a commitment to evaluating the effectiveness of engagement initiatives to drive continuous improvement.
Event Planning and Cultural Competence: Your experience in implementing feedback mechanisms will ensure that resident voices are prioritized in decision-making processes. Additionally, your skills in event planning and cultural competence will enhance outreach efforts, while your data-driven approach will inform strategies and measure success.
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of experience in community organizing, including training and mentoring organizers, is preferred.
5+ years of leading data analysis and developing impactful narratives for outreach initiatives.
5+ years of developing and leading community engagement design.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience performing full performance professional level duties
Education and Experience Equivalency: 1 year of the appropriate type and level of experience maybe be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
