Your Opportunity

Exciting things are happening with our After Hours Outreach Service and we want you to be a part of it! If you're passionate about making a real difference for those sleeping rough or battling chronic homelessness in Cairns, this role is perfect for you. As a key player in our team, you'll bring energy and expertise to case management with a strengths-based, 'housing first' approach. You'll connect with people experiencing homelessness, assess their unique needs, and develop personalized plans. Key responsibilities will be to:

• Assess and assist people sleeping rough or in unsafe situations, i.e. sleeping in cars, tents, and temporary accommodation
• Complete regular outreach activities throughout the Cairns region and actively engage with people experiencing homelessness on daily basis
• Support eligible clients into short term accommodation and complete referrals to other SHS services
• Build trust and rapport with our participants to encourage engagement in the program
• Build and develop strong, constructive relationships with agencies and community partners
• Engage in creative strategies to support improved program access for people ‘sleeping rough.’
• Update Case notes and administration tasks to ensure effective record keeping for the program

Requirements for Success

• Ideally qualifications in Community Work, Social Work, Psychology or Behavioural Sciences.
• Ideally some case management experience but not essential
• Proven experience building trust and developing relationships with participants and stakeholders.
• Ability to work over a 7 day roster in an afterhours capacity including regular evening and overnight shifts
• Some administration and record keeping experience
