The EMS Instructor II, under direction, assists trains various specialty skilled and/or semi-skilled courses within a specified program. Utilizes knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to help maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of the course instruction. May perform online and/or classroom instruction, field-based skills training, and/or provide technical assistance in a specialty area. Uses a variety of media to present course material. Assists in creating new and/or updating curriculum content, when necessary, to meet learner needs.
This position reports to the Training Manager.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED.
Five years of related EMS instruction or work experience.
Two years of training or adult education experience.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Current National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) or Texas Department of State Health and Human Services (TDSHS-EMS) Certification EMT Basic, EMT Advanced or Paramedic.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate’s or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to exert heavy amounts of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. The use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of force greater than that for Sedentary Work.
Prolonged periods of sustained posture, intense attentiveness, and walking and/or standing.
Ability to travel in adverse weather conditions for instruction assignments.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge in a specialty area.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Equipment:
Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone.
Emergency Medical equipment related to the Texas Department of Health and Human Services EMS and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician student education standards for Emergency Medical Responder, Emergency Medical Technician -Basic, Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic.
Motorized EMS program vehicles to include non-emergency ambulance, golf carts and mules.

This position is security sensitive.
This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
As part of TEEX’s mission of providing training, developing practical solutions, and saving lives; this position could be required, if called upon, to deploy within the State of Texas as directed by this position’s Division Director/HQ Department Head.
Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines.
This position may have exposure to bloodborne pathogens or other potentially infectious materials.
Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:
Training Course Delivery – 75%
Arrives 20 minutes before the course is scheduled to begin.
Responsible for delivering various courses within the specified program.
Assures all concerned parties are contacted about the schedule, location and times.
Follows approved curriculum course outline and timelines.
Assures all training materials, training aids, and classroom are ready for the client.
Maintains subject matter expertise of instruction.
Presents lessons in a positive manner using adult learning principles.
Ensure all aspects of lessons and activities are covered as they apply.
Participates as a Subject Matter Expert as needed.
Assists in course development and review as needed.
Ensures all participants have achieved the terminal competency objects of the course.
Assures all training materials, training aids and classrooms are secured upon the completion of the course.
Training Documentation – 20%
Collects forms at the start of class, ensures students sign the attendance roster.
Maintains appropriate student activity documentation.
Ensures course evaluations are collected and returned as instructed by the lead instructor or EMS Training Manager.
Completes all required course documents in a timely manner.
Fiscal Responsibility – 5%
Completes all required TAMUS training within the requested due dates.
Submits timesheets by assigned due date.
Other Duties:
Follows all dress codes and appropriate professional attire associated with your work activity (I.E. Classroom presentations, skill demonstration, in office and as needed travel status).
Represents TEEX in a professional and positive light during travel status and class delivery.
Performs other duties as assigned.
