Summary:
Provides operational oversight for the placement of all admissions (elective and emergent) and transfers in accordance with the clinical standards and guidelines. Facilitates patient placement to the most appropriate bed available using criteria for admission, patient placement guidelines, and patient care staffing levels. Assesses and plans for hospital status changes through provision of data and information related to human resources and bed availability on a shift by shift basis. Supervises implementation of flexible staffing and provides direction and oversight to the scheduling coordinator. Serves as an administration representative for the evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts with the responsibility for total hospital operations (nursing and non-nursing).
What you will need:
Bachelors Degree in Nursing or other health related field is required.
Masters Degree in Nursing or other health related field preferred.
Current Michigan license as a Registered Nurse
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification. Obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification within 3 months. Maintain current EKG Certification
Preferred: CCRN or CEN Certification
Current knowledge of patient care practices and health care systems. Five years of current and progressive clinical and leadership experience in an acute care setting, including involvement in direct patient care, educating staff, and problem solving of unit or organizational issues.
Preferred: Understanding of Utilization Management and Process Improvement concepts preferred
What you will do:
Coordinates operational management of patient placement to the most appropriate bed available for all admissions (emergent, direct and elective), and transfers in accordance with clinical standards and guidelines.
Maintains knowledge of complex patient care requirements and is able to assist staff members with critical thinking in patient care settings. Maintains clinical expertise in order to effectively intervene in clinical situations to reduce the number of potentially preventable cardiac arrests, unplanned admission to ICU/Step-down and returns to the operating rooms.
Directs activities of Scheduling Coordinator.
Facilitates decision-making surrounding hospital status changes
