Job Description

Supervises the nursing staff in the technical operations of the department to ensure proper nursing coverage of clinical study activities

Day to day responsibilities:

  • Manages staff, which may include interviewing and selection, job description preparation, professional development, goal setting, performance management, coaching and mentoring, employee counselling, and separations.

  • Approves courses of action on salary administration, hiring, corrective action, and terminations.

  • Reviews and approves time records, expense reports, requests for leave, and overtime.

  • Serves as a technical consultant in the planning and execution of study conduction workflows and setup.

  • Oversees the technical aspects and operation of study conduction in the clinic ensuring data integrity and quality.

  • Prepares weekly to monthly scheduling and study conduction assignments of nursing staff to meet the needs of the clinic.

  • Ensures staff accountability and consistency in the execution of their respective duties and management of their working hours.

  • Leads and directs departmental staff meetings as guided by operational and other applicable agendas.

  • Participates in projects and department initiatives as needed.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification

  • Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 0 to 5 years).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Attention to details with solid organizational skills

  • Fundamental understanding of early phase clinical trials, with detailed ability to understand study protocols and translate requirements into procedural tasks for conduction

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Good written and verbal communication

  • Ability to work efficiently in a collaborative team environment

  • Effective problem-solving and critical thinking

  • 1+ year of leadership responsibility

Management Role:

  • Directly supervises administrative support and / or technical staff.

  • Working Conditions and Environment:

  • Work is performed in an office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment.

  • Frequently drives to site locations and frequently travels both domestic and international.


Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently stationary for 6-8 hours per day.

  • Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.

  • Moderate mobility required.

  • Occasional crouching, stooping, bending and twisting of upper body and neck.

  • Light to moderate lifting and carrying (or otherwise moves) objects including luggage and laptop computer with a maximum lift of 15-20 lbs.

  • Ability to access and use a variety of computer software developed both in-house and off-the-shelf.

  • Able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

  • Frequently interacts with others, relates sensitive information to diverse groups both internally & externally.

  • Ability to apply basic principles to solve conceptual issues.

  • Performs a wide range of variable tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to the occurrence. Ability to perform under stress. Ability to multi-task.
