The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, has an exciting full time opportunity for a Clinical Educator 2, in the Department of Ophthalmic Imaging. The Clinical Educator 2 provides clinical education to patient care staff. The incumbent is responsible for the needs and assessment, planning/development, delivery, coordination and evaluation of a clinical education program/s. Provides support to the learner community and supports ongoing initiatives.

Provides education and resources to enhance patient care.
Assists staff with educational needs, problem resolution, time management, and critical thinking skills development.
Collaborates with medical providers, patient care staff, and division management in the planning, implementation, and delivery of educational curricula.
Implements clinical skills activities within established clinical and preceptorship models, monitors data trends, and implements educational strategies to ensure compliance with quality standards.
Educates technical and patient care staff in the use of new equipment, supplies, and instruments, and coordinates in-service training and workshops.
Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
Ensures compliance with all institutional policies and procedures including mandatory in-service employee health procedures, federal, state, regulatory and accrediting agencies standards.
Maintains professional knowledge by affiliating with professional and technical organizations, and participating in applicable continuing education programs, conferences, seminars, and workshops.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required or equivalent

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM
General Description:
The Clinical Educator 2, Imaging Services develops, implements, and maintains ophthalmic imaging competency assessment and compliance programs to promote service excellence and positive patient experience. The Educator facilitates clinic efficiency through structured cross-training.
In addition, s/he collaborates in the development of training materials and protocols for the use of new devices and technologies to facilitate virtual and in-person care. S/he incorporates faculty input and process improvement principles as part of overall project management.
The Clinical Educator 2, Imaging Services participates in the development and implementation of policies and procedural controls for quality improvement, performance improvement, compliance, and competency assessment. S/he ensures compliance with regulatory and legal requirements and adherence to the Office of Privacy and Information Security, Enterprise Imaging, Value Analysis, Biomedical Engineering, and research standards.
Plans, develops, implements, coordinates, and evaluates ophthalmic imaging staff orientation program, initial and ongoing competency assessment, and general educational programs with emphasis on virtual care operations.
Participates in recruitment activities and new hire skills assessment.
Performs education needs assessment to prioritize and develop educational programs.
Maintains current knowledge of provider protocols.
Aligns educational training with study certification protocols.
Collaborates with faculty and professional development department to develop initial and annual competency requirements.
Identifies individuals to verify competencies (sign-off) and implement standardized preceptorship programs.
Develops department competency matrix listing each imaging technician and completed competencies.
Documents competency assessment in employee file/online and department competency matrix.
Develops, assigns and monitors online education courses and reports compliance to directors/supervisors.
Prepares standard manuals, guides, tip sheets, and other evidence-based educational materials to be used at eye centers.
Ensures compliance with institutional policies and procedures including mandatory in-services, employee health procedures, federal, state, regulatory, and accrediting agencies standards.
Confirm laser safety training to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
Collaborates with the infection control/prevention leader to formalize infection control practices: cleaning ophthalmology equipment and exam rooms between patients, instrument preparation and transport, and environment of care and patient safety practices.
Collaborates with patient experience leaders to incorporate patient and family-centered care service delivery and interdisciplinary communication system (CICARE) in education programs.
Assists with continued readiness for regulatory agency inspections.
Maintains current knowledge of standards, keeping abreast of recent changes that may affect Institute policies, procedures, and processes.
Performs related work as required. Participates in committees, task forces, and projects for areas of coverage.
Facilitates team building and leadership development for areas of coverage.
Adjusts content and teaching strategies appropriate to learner needs.
Coordinates continuing education courses for ophthalmic technical personnel throughout the year.
Coordinates yearly continuing education event for nurses and ophthalmic technicians.
Serves as BLS instructor.
Collaborates with Virtual Eye Care as appropriate.
Department Specific Qualifications
10 years’ experience in the clinical setting preferred
5 years’ experience in the academic research environment preferred
Certification and Licensing:
Certification as an Ophthalmic Imager (OCT-C, CRA) or completion within 6 months
BLS instructor certification required within 6 months
Six Sigma Green Belt preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing
Knowledge of adult learning principles
Demonstrated expertise in presentation and training skills
Advanced computer skills, including Epic and Microsoft Office
Ability to travel to satellites with over-night stays
