Civil Underground Engineer

KBR’s Sustainable Technology Solutions (STS) group is looking for a Civil Underground Engineer to support the Abadi LNG project, one of the largest projects in Asia.  This project will provide front-end design (FEED) for onshore liquefied natural gas facilities & will have a peak production capacity targets of 9.5 million tons per annum of LNG and 150 million standard cubic feet per day of pipeline gas.  The Abadi LNG project has been designated a project of national strategic importance by the Indonesian government.

The Civil Underground Engineer will design and develop underground systems including stormwater drainage, sewerage, firewater, potable water, oily water, and utility trenches.  This role will coordinate with geotechnical, structural, piping, and electrical teams to ensure integrated design solutions.

 Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare and review engineering deliverables such as layouts, profiles, cross-sections, material take-offs, and technical specifications
  • Perform hydraulic and structural calculations for underground piping and culverts
  • Support construction teams with technical guidance, field inspections, and resolution of underground-related issues
  • Ensure compliance with project standards, local regulations, and international codes (e.g., ASCE, API, AWWA)
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and constructability workshops
  • Monitor progress and contribute to schedule and cost control efforts related to underground scope

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 7 years of civil/structural analysis/design engineering experience, with average experience of 10 + years
  • Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads, StormCAD, or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of subsurface utilities, trenching, backfilling, and drainage systems
  • Good communication and coordination skills across engineering and construction teams
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary project environment
  • Experience with LNG terminals or large-scale industrial facilities
  • Familiarity with modular construction and coastal site development
  • Exposure to EPC project execution and international engineering standards
