ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Positions patients and adjusts equipment for taking x-rays following established procedures.
· Instructs patients regarding procedures and observes patients for vital signs during examination.
· Follows prescribed safety standards in operating radiological equipment and uses a variety of radiation protection and shielding materials.
· Selects length and intensity for radiation exposure by adjusting equipment on individual patient basis.
· Develops and processes radiological film/images and examines radiological films/images for properties such as density and contrast, definition, magnification and distortion.
· Delivers to physician for reading/interpretation film and or images by using the Ortho Carolina Picture Archive Communications System (PACS) when applicable.
· Cleans and makes minor adjustments to radiology equipment and ensures equipment is in working order and reports equipment malfunctions to Radiology Manager or designer.
· Prepares copies of CDs for patients, tests, surgery and physicians as required.
· Logs radiological procedures completed, processes charges and related paperwork using computer equipment as directed.
· Maintains cleanliness of examination rooms and stocks necessary medical and/or radiological supplies in the department. Compliance with all Ortho Carolina policy and procedures.
· Assists with the transportation of patients between the examination module(s) and the Radiology department. Assist with patient flow in the examination module(s) as directed by a supervisor.
· Attends Radiology department and Ortho Carolina meetings and participates in committees upon request.
· Maintain registry in good standing with the ARRT through continuing education and attending professional workshops.
· Travel to and from other Ortho Carolina locations as needed. · Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION REQUIRED:
· Highschool diploma or GED equivalent
· Graduate of a Medical HealthCare certificate program or
· Graduate of a Limited Radiologic Technologist program approved by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and the American Medical Association.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
· Minimum of one-year clinical medical office experience or one year as a licensed limited x-ray tech with an orthopedic background.
PROFESSIONAL LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
· Certified/Registered/Licensed as a CMA, CCMA, RMA, EMT, ATC
· Completion of an approved Limited Scope Technologist certificate program and license by the state in which employed, if applicable.
· Current CPR certification recommended.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
· Ability to operate various manufacturer types of Radiology suite equipment, (i.e. Siemens/GE/Philips).
· Skill in proficient use of various manufacturer types of Digital Radiology (DR) and Computer Radiology (CR) systems.
· Skill in identifying equipment problems and correcting or notifying supervisor.
· Skill in positioning patients properly and performing quality diagnostic radiographs.
· Observes safety and security procedures.
· Knowledge of vendors to contact in case of maintenance and/or repair.
· Ability to add, subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percentage and interpret bar graphs.
· Knowledge of computers, including MS Outlook, EPIC, PACS, photocopy equipment and fax.
· Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards common to radiology; x-ray procedures and protocols; anatomy and physiology necessary to perform x-ray procedures including body mechanics, patient movement and positioning for exams.
