About the Role
We are seeking a Chief of Staff to partner with the VP of Vehicle Platform & Hardware and the broader Technology Group leadership team. This is a highly strategic and operational role that sits at the intersection of advanced engineering, manufacturing, and business operations. The organization develops custom vehicle integrations for Nuro’s advanced compute and sensor stack, ensuring that platforms are production-ready for autonomy, spanning manufacturing, GSM, production, sensor, electrical, and mechanical engineering.
You will drive progress across technical roadmaps, track and unblock long-pole items, and ensure that the organization’s work directly advances Nuro’s overall commercialization strategy. This role requires someone who can navigate seamlessly between engineering detail and strategic context, understanding the “why” behind decisions, ensuring execution on the “how,” and maintaining alignment across internal and external stakeholders.
This position is designed for a strategic operator with strong analytical and business acumen, someone who can move fluidly between executive-level strategy and day-to-day execution. The ideal candidate brings a structured, problem-solving mindset, thrives in ambiguous environments, and excels at translating complex goals into clear, actionable plans. Experience in consulting or other highly cross-functional, fast-paced environments is a plus.
About the Work
Organizational Operations and Execution
- Partner with the VP and Technology Group leadership team to define, operationalize, and continuously improve the organization’s operating rhythm.
- Help drive execution on critical technical programs by identifying long-pole dependencies, unblocking progress, and tracking key milestones.
- Facilitate alignment between Hardware, Autonomy, and Commercial teams to ensure platform readiness and technical integration success.
- Manage leadership meetings, quarterly reviews, and cross-functional communications to maintain clarity, momentum, and accountability.
- Anticipate risks and proactively drive solutions across engineering and partner interfaces.
Strategic and Business Alignment
- Serve as a thought partner to the VP on organization structure, resourcing, and strategic priorities.
- Help define and track critical milestones that tie hardware and vehicle integration deliverables directly to company-level objectives.
- Support strategy, hardware partnerships, and cross-functional execution with Autonomy, Operations, and OEM partners.
- Act as a connective layer between the technical teams and business functions, ensuring engineering work accelerates Nuro’s commercialization roadmap.
Program and Partner Management
- Work with TPMs and functional leads to maintain clear visibility into critical-path deliverables and readiness checkpoints.
- Coordinate with external partners and vendors to ensure timelines, integration requirements, and deliverables remain on track.
- Translate technical updates into executive-ready insights and communications for senior leadership and Board audiences.
People and Culture
- Partner with the People and Recruiting teams to support headcount planning, talent reviews, and engagement initiatives.
- Help foster a culture of operational rigor, accountability, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Encourage alignment, clarity, and consistency across geographically distributed teams.
About You
- 7+ years of experience in consulting or technical leadership across hardware engineering, engineering operations, with prior exposure to complex technical organizations preferred.
- Strong technical acumen with the ability to understand and contextualize discussions across hardware, mechanical, and electrical domains.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and project management skills with a proven ability to translate strategy into execution.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to influence and align without direct authority.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and solving problems in high-stakes, cross-functional environments.
- Track record of identifying inefficiencies, driving process improvements, and increasing leadership leverage.
Bonus Points
- Experience in automotive, robotics, or manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with hardware and software integration and new product introduction (NPI).
- Experience supporting VP or C-level executives in fast-moving or scaling technical organizations.
- Prior experience building cross-functional operating systems and leadership cadences.
- Top academic or professional background in engineering, consulting, business, or related disciplines.
At Nuro, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. For this position, the reasonably expected base pay range is between $176,400 and $264,600 for the level at which this job has been scoped. Your base pay will depend on several factors, including your experience, qualifications, education, location, and skills. In the event that you are considered for a different level, a higher or lower pay range would apply. This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus, equity, and a competitive benefits package.
