Purpose of the Job
The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is responsible for defining, leading, and executing Truliant’s technology and enterprise data strategy to support business goals, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. This role oversees all aspects of information technology, cybersecurity, data governance, analytics, and digital transformation, ensuring the organization’s technology and data capabilities drive superior member service, innovation, and business growth.
The CIO ensures alignment between IT, data, and business strategies, fosters a culture of data-driven decision-making, and champions technology adoption and data management practices that strengthen the organization’s competitive advantage.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Serves as a member of the Chief Planning Team (CPT), providing strategic input into technology, data, and analytics plans in collaboration with the CPT, the Senior Management Team (SMT), and the Board of Directors.
- Provides consistent external and internal leadership in discovering, analyzing, assessing, and implementing technologies and data-driven innovations that improve service, efficiency, and competitive advantage.
- Provides long-range observations and guidance to CPT and Board regarding emerging technologies and data practices, including Cloud computing, AI, Blockchain, RPA, API strategy, and enterprise analytics.
- Directs the operations and ongoing development of all IT and enterprise data functions to support growth, operational efficiency, and high member satisfaction.
- Leads Enterprise Business Analysis, application development, data architecture, and analytics teams to support core systems, business intelligence, and strategic initiatives.
- Serves as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), proactively managing IT risk, cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, and reporting to the CPT and Board.
- Leads enterprise data strategy, governance, and quality programs, ensuring data is accurate, accessible, secure, and ethically managed.
- Oversees data management initiatives, including master data management, metadata management, and analytics modernization to enable actionable business insights.
- Partners with business units and leadership to drive data-driven decision-making, predictive analytics, and AI adoption for strategic advantage.
- Enables and implements RPA and AI initiatives, leveraging best practices to support digital and self-service channels.
- Oversees digital platforms, IT infrastructure, and enterprise applications to enable seamless digital transformation.
- Provides guidance in budgeting, long-range planning, innovation, IT and data strategy, next-gen technology adoption, and service quality for all direct reports.
- Participates in developing the Credit Union’s Strategic Plan, Annual Business Plan, and Operating Budget, including the IT and data budget aligned with strategic objectives.
- Provides guidance to integrate with FinTechs and partners to simplify, optimize, and enhance service delivery.
- Facilitates alignment and collaboration by sharing goals and expectations that support interdepartmental cooperation and enterprise-wide data usage.
- Engages with the broader IT and data community to remain current on evolving technology, governance, and analytics best practices.

- Actively promotes the mission of the Credit Union internally and externally, ensuring the organization’s technology and data strategy support its core mission.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must have expertise in enterprise data management, analytics, business intelligence, data governance, and IT strategy.
- Must have knowledge of systems design & development, cloud systems, cybersecurity, enterprise applications, and emerging technologies.
- Must have strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills; able to influence at the executive and board levels.
- Must have experience with SQL, Oracle, .NET, open-source programming, RPA, AI, and predictive analytics platforms.
- Must have strong project management skills, including system conversions, new implementations, and cross-functional initiatives.
- Must have the ability to foster a data-driven culture and collaborate with business units to translate data into actionable insights.
- Must have a commitment to mission-driven, member-centric strategic focus.
Physical Requirements
- Occasional standing, walking, bending, and stooping required.
- Must be able to sit at a desk for extended periods and use a computer.
- Must be able to moderately lift or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds.
- Occasional travel required.
Education and Background
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or related field required; Master’s or MBA preferred.
- Minimum 15+ years’ experience in IT and/or data management, with at least 10 years in leadership roles, including 7+ years in senior management.
- Experience with enterprise system conversions, mergers, cybersecurity, and large database management required.
- Proven experience in managing IT disaster recovery, enterprise continuity plans, data governance, and analytics initiatives required.
- Proven experience in risk management, regulatory compliance, and IT/data governance required.
- Relevant certifications preferred (e.g., CISSP, ITIL, PMP, CDMP, DAMA).
- Working knowledge of financial industry fundamentals is preferred.
