This vacancy is based in Amsterdam. Daily work involves cross-team and cross-country collaborations. We are part of the ING’s Wholesale Banking Tech Transaction Services organization.

The team

We are responsible for the design, modification and maintenance of the software solutions used to process receivables finance and supply chain finance deals. Our applications range from in-house developed channels, a modern integration layer, SaaS solutions and a couple of legacy applications. The integration layer is event-based and central to supporting digitalized customer journeys, enabling straight-through processing by connecting channels, backend services and other applications in our IT landscape.

You will lead a chapter of Dev engineers and DevOps engineers working across a couple of squads, as well as work as senior engineer. You and your chapter members must demonstrate the mature technical capabilities on the following areas:

  • Back-end and API development using Java SpringBoot.
  • Develop event-based integration components using Java SpringBoot, Kafka, Apache Camel, and Json.
  • Front-end development in JavaScript and Lit-Element (web components).
  • Test automation with Junit, Karate/Cucumber, Gherkin and Gatling.
  • Overall automations for distributed systems running cloud-natively.
  • Data management skills for at-rest and in-transit data, including the underlying usage of data products.
  • Monitoring & alerting using Grafana/Prometheus & ELK.
  • CI/CD using Azure DevOps and backlog management on Azure Board.

Roles and responsibilities

As IT Chapter Lead and Dev Engineer, you are a key player in the cooperation between engineers, customer journey experts, architects, business analysts and other stakeholders. Your main responsibilities in this position will involve:

  • Lead and manage a team of full stack engineers, providing mentorship, guidance, and technical expertise as needed.
  • Design, implement, and maintain robust IT solutions with a primary emphasis on reliability and security.
  • Develop and execute strategic plans, ensuring that engineering projects are delivered on time and with minimal to no technical debt.
  • Review and evaluate technical designs, providing feedback and guidance to ensure that designs meet product requirements and industry standards.
  • Participate in code reviews and technical discussions to maintain high-quality code and ensure that code aligns with product goals and industry standards.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate team performance, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Implement and safeguard all mandatory standards to ensure IT Risk is within the risk appetite of the bank.
  • Ensure that engineering processes and practices are aligned with industry best practices and that the team is following established procedures and protocols.
  • Actively participate in training plans and help all engineers in the area to level their technical skills together with the rest of the engineering managers.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement within the engineering team.

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or in another engineering domain combined with strong IT background.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience as software engineer, with at least 2 years of experience leading development teams/projects.
  • Strong technical background and expertise in software development methodologies, programming languages, and cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Experience with adopting software architecture design best practices, together with efficient usage of software verification & validation techniques.
  • Ability to manage and motivate a team of Dev engineers and DevOps engineers.
  • Experience with agile methodologies and project management.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality software products on time.
  • Solid knowledge of databases, middleware and network technologies.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, being able to elaborate, write and present ideas clearly at different levels of abstraction.
  • Ability to challenge, influence and convince others through fact-based arguments.
