Do work that matters
Our Crew is made up of passionate Platform Engineering DevSecOps squads who run and evolve CBA’s enterprise-scale Observability products.
We’re driven by a mission to create a world-class engineering experience for our internal customers. That means building automation, self-service capabilities, and secure-by-design products that empower teams across the bank to deliver faster, safer, and with higher quality.
We take ownership of everything we build and operate — applying a “you build it, you run it” mindset and leveraging data-driven insights to continuously improve performance, reliability, and developer productivity. Our work sits at the heart of enabling CBA’s digital transformation — helping thousands of engineers’ ship software confidently at scale.
See yourself in our team
As a chapter lead you will be expected to conduct people management activities and initiatives while also actively contributing to the technical delivery work of the products.
Lead and develop a medium-sized team of engineers working across multiple products, fostering a culture of growth, collaboration, and accountability.
Balance strategic leadership and hands-on impact — dedicating around 50% of your time to coaching, mentoring, and performance management, and the remaining 50% to uplifting DevSecOps maturity, driving technical delivery and leaning in to help resolve complex incidents.
Provide technical leadership across the crew, influencing engineering excellence beyond your direct team and championing best practices in secure, scalable, and high-quality engineering delivery.
Collaborate closely with fellow Chapter Leads within the Core Platforms Crew to align on shared goals, streamline delivery processes, and promote a culture of continuous improvement and cross-team support.
We’re interested in hearing from people who
Proven experience building and scaling high-performing engineering teams, fostering an environment where innovation, creativity, and experimentation are encouraged and rewarded. You know how to attract great talent, mentor emerging leaders, and create a culture of ownership and continuous learning.
Strong foundation in software or platform engineering, ideally within a large enterprise environment where products are delivered and operated at scale. You’ve worked in — or led — teams that embrace automation through Infrastructure as Code, continuous integration, automated testing, and continuous deployment pipelines.
Hands-on technical leadership — you’re not afraid to dive into complex systems, debug production issues, or contribute directly to solutions when required. You bring the technical credibility that inspires confidence across engineers, architects, and stakeholders.
SRE mindset and operational excellence — you understand reliability, observability, and performance engineering. You use data and metrics to drive decisions, proactively identify system improvements, and promote practices that reduce toil and improve platform resilience.
Deep understanding of modern engineering practices, including systems design, performance tuning, automated testing frameworks, and application performance monitoring. You’re comfortable making architectural decisions that balance security, scalability, and speed of delivery.
Tech Skills
You’ll bring a strong engineering background and the technical credibility to lead from the front. Our environment is modern, highly automated, and built for scale — so we’re looking for someone who understands what great looks like in platform engineering, DevSecOps, and SRE practices.
We’re looking for someone with experience in:
Hybrid cloud environments — managing workloads across private cloud, public cloud (AWS preferred), and SaaS platforms
Containerisation and orchestration — strong hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes for deploying and managing large-scale, distributed workloads
Linux systems expertise — deep understanding of Linux administration, troubleshooting, and performance optimisation across enterprise-scale environments.
Modern CI/CD practices — familiarity with GitHub Actions and Argo CD or equivalent tooling, and a solid grasp of automated build, test, and deployment pipelines.
Automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) — strong skills in scripting and automation using Python, Ansible, Terraform, and Bash to create scalable, repeatable infrastructure and deployment patterns.
Go development — experience with or interest in Go is highly desirable, particularly for building automation and self-service capabilities within platform tooling.
Observability and SRE mindset — practical experience in SLO/SLIs, alerting, and improving system reliability. You understand how to engineer for resilience and performance using metrics, logs, and traces.
Observability toolsets — exposure to one or more tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, CloudWatch, Splunk, Dynatrace, or Honeycomb, and the ability to leverage them to provide insights and improve platform health.
