Overview: As part of our commitment to advancing care delivery and improving patient outcomes, we are enhancing our end-of-life case management program, Aetna Compassionate Care Program (ACCP) to include spiritual support. The ACCP Chaplin will be responsible for providing emotional, bereavement and spiritual support through pastoral care to members, their families and staff.

They will be working with members living with serious illness, those receiving palliative care or hospice care and the loved ones who are grieving postmortem. This role ensures compassionate, non-denominational, non-medical care, helping members navigate emotions, spiritual conflicts and bereavement support (pre and post mortem) in alignment with their culture, religion, values and wishes.

Location: Work At Home - Anywhere in Eastern Time Zone

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm Eastern Time

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide non-denominational religious or spiritual guidance to members or resources to the primary case manager.
  • Provides guidance, counseling and support to members based on their faith and beliefs.
  • Ability to work with diverse cultures and support rituals.
  • Offer emotional support and a calming presence to members and families.
  • Provide anticipatory guidance to members and their loved ones who are approaching end of life.
  • Provide guidance on practical matters such as vigil planning, comfort measures, and resources.
  • Offers reflective non-judgmental listening to members going through a difficult time.
  • Attends to each identified member’s spiritual and emotional needs as warranted by initial and ongoing spiritual care assessment.
  • Participate, as needed, in interdisciplinary rounds with Medical Directors, Nurse Practitioners, Social Workers, Pharmacists, Behavioral Health and Case Managers. Accept referrals from the Inter Disciplinary Team and Case Management.
  • Coordinate with hospice, palliative care teams, and other service providers as needed. Internal and external.
  • Available to prepare and conduct internal in-service seminars on religious subjects/issues
  • Provides spiritual and emotional support to internal staff and Palliative Care Team.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate Theological Education. Examples Pastoral Ministry, Theology, Divinity or related counseling field.
  • Board Certified Chaplin (BCC) (REQUIRED).
  • Palliative Care and Hospice Advanced Certification (PCHAC) offered by the Association of Professional Chaplains (BCCI) and the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC) (PREFERRED).
  • Knowledge of religious values, traditions, cultures and skills necessary to provide spiritual care to patients served.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in pastoral/spiritual care in hospice, palliative care, or hospital
  • Endorsement of or confirmation of good standing in accordance with the requirements of own faith tradition.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and active listening skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and supportive in emotionally charged situations.
  • Cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse backgrounds and beliefs.
  • High comfort level with technology.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$21.10 - $40.90

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
