This position serves as the primary point of contact for students seeking guidance on state certification processes. Responsibilities include advising students on certification procedures, maintaining data within state systems, and ensuring compliance with departmental and state requirements. The Certification Officer works closely with the Dean and the Director of Certification to support the School of Education’s mission and maintain high standards of service.

Responsibilities:

  • Responds to inquiries regarding certification questions by phone, email, and in person.
  • Provides accurate information to students about state certification procedures, degree completion requirements, and support systems available through the University of the Cumberlands’ School of Education.
  • Advises and assists students in applying for certification through the state’s online system.
  • Performs data entry and maintains candidate records in the state certification database.
  • Assists in processing Mentoring Plans for MAT candidates employed under Option 6 licensure.
  • Supports the Director of Certification in providing oversight and assistance to University Supervisors and District-Based Mentors.
  • Composes correspondence (including emails) to students, faculty, staff, and school district personnel.
  • Maintains confidentiality and ensures the accuracy of certification and student records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of Education and/or the Director of Certification

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure
  • Proficiency in data entry and database management systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
