About the role
Be part of shaping the future of our campus through strategic procurement excellence. Macquarie University is seeking an experienced and motivated Category Manager – Property and Facilities Management to join our Strategic Procurement team.
Strategic Procurement operates within the University's Finance and Resources division and is responsible for developing and managing procurement policies, frameworks, and activities that align with the University's strategic objectives.
In this role, you’ll focus on delivering effective procurement outcomes in support of strategic projects. You’ll contribute to shaping sourcing strategies that align with the University’s vision and operational priorities, ensuring every decision delivers value for money and supports sustainability. By driving innovative sourcing approaches and implementing category strategies, you’ll make sure we stay compliant with the ProcureRight Framework.
Working closely with the Strategic Sourcing Portfolio Manager-Property and senior stakeholders, you’ll deliver complex sourcing projects, negotiate contracts, and drive supplier optimisation initiatives.
Key responsibilities
Champion compliance and innovation by managing risk within procurement and tendering guidelines while introducing best practice sourcing solutions.
Manage end-to-end procurement processes for property and facilities management related projects
Execute procurement plans, lead sourcing activities, negotiate contracts.
Partner with internal stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions aligned to objectives.
Optimise supplier performance through rationalisation and engagement programs in collaboration with the Strategic Sourcing Portfolio Manager and business stakeholders.
Identifying preferred supplier opportunities and build strong partnership.
Ensure integrity and value through supplier due diligence, onboarding checks, and ongoing reviews to maintain robust commercial relationships.

About you
You have a passion for delivering value through smart procurement. You thrive in complex environments, influencing stakeholders and driving innovative solutions that make a tangible impact. With a strong background in property and facilities procurement, you know how to balance compliance, cost efficiency, and sustainability while building trusted relationships across diverse teams. You bring:
A degree and/or substantial experience in property procurement, including facilities management and construction (minimum 5 years).
Proven ability to partner with senior stakeholders and suppliers to achieve cost-effective, timely outcomes.
Expertise in contract governance and supplier management frameworks.
Demonstrated success in executing demand management and business plans to achieve coordinated, measurable outcomes in revenue and expense reduction
Exceptional communication and analytical skills, with a knack for solving complex problems creatively.
Experience working with distributed teams and managing multiple priorities.
