Your Opportunity: Support People into Safe, Secure Housing
Join Mission Australia’s After Hours Outreach Program and make a real difference in the lives of people experiencing homelessness. This service provides assertive outreach after hours to individuals sleeping rough in the Cairns region, helping them access specialist homelessness services and crisis accommodation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and assist people sleeping rough or in unsafe situations (e.g., cars, tents, temporary accommodation).
  • Conduct regular outreach activities across the Cairns region and actively engage with people experiencing homelessness.
  • Support eligible clients into short-term accommodation and complete referrals to other SHS services.
  • Build trust and rapport with participants to encourage program engagement.
  • Develop strong, constructive relationships with agencies and community partners.
  • Use creative strategies to improve program access for people ‘sleeping rough.’
  • Maintain accurate case notes and complete administrative tasks for effective record keeping.

Requirements for Success

  • Qualifications in Community Work, Social Work, Psychology, or Behavioural Sciences.
  • Some case management experience (desirable but not essential).
  • Proven ability to build trust and develop relationships with participants and stakeholders.
  • Flexibility to work across a 7-day roster in an after-hours capacity, including early mornings, afternoons, and evenings.
  • Strong administrative and record-keeping skills.

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
