The Laboratory Technician is responsible for conducting product testing in compliance with quality standards and compiling data and documentation in support of test results.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Performs daily lab testing activities, including NOCSAE/ASTM drop testing for helmets and headgear, and ball impact testing for facemasks, chest protectors, and eyewear.
  • Maintains and monitors pre-test conditioning, including ambient, hot, and cold conditions.
  • Evaluates product performance and test results for compliance with applicable standards (NOCSAE, ASTM) and promptly communicates issues and/or trends to the QA Manager.
  • Ensures that all test data is collected, managed and stored according to QA/QC and standard guidelines.
  • Ensure lab protocols are in-place, updated and followed at all times.
  • Completes testing in a timely manner.
  • Maintains all appropriate lab equipment to ensure it is in good working order and coordinates internal and external calibrations and repairs.
  • Prepares product samples for third party testing.
  • Provides product and material testing for R&D and incoming QA inspection.
  • Assists with troubleshooting testing issues.
  • Train on and perform new testing technologies and methods as directed.
  • Participate in both internal and external lab audits.
  • Maintain lab cleanliness and order.
  • Provide support to other quality department functions such as line inspection, audits and incoming inspection as needed.
  • Provides support to production team as needed.
  • Performs various other duties and responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma required plus 1-3 years’ experience working in quality control or quality test lab environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work in a dynamic environment
  • Knowledge of mechanical testing equipment and how to accurately perform a variety of product tests is an asset
  • Previous experience working with ISO/ASTM/NOCSAE standards in an asset.
  • Possesses good judgment skills in planning, organization and execution of tests.
  • Works cooperatively with a wide variety of people.
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills.
  • Detail orientated, with ability to follow strict protocols.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with Quality Standards and Quality audits is an asset.
