Dow R&D/TS&D Internship student for R&D Characterization lab in Terneuzen

Campus internship: Effect of polymer type on processing defects in polyethylene processing 

The Dow Chemical Company has an opening for an R&D/TS&D Technical internship position in the R&D Characterization Group in Terneuzen, The Netherlands. This is a characterization and analytical process group under the Global R&D Characterization organization in P&SPH business which characterizes polyethylene polymers, films, additives and different types of products, to support manufacturing plants, R&D projects, technical service studies, and process improvements. The project has a strong focus on advancing plastics characterization to address some of the most important challenges. Defects occurring during polymer processing, such as melt fracture or die drool, are a source of production loss.  During this internship, the propensity of polymer types  to show or avoid processing defects via extrusion and rheological experiments, as well as through the characterization of the polymer resins.  This work aligns with Dow’s Sustainability Goals and commitment to producing materials that safer for people and the environment. 

The following will be the responsibilities of the student selected for this internship position:

  • Literature study
  • Laboratory work with rheology and polymer characterization instruments
  • Data processing, interpretation, and reporting
  • Presentation of the findings

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s student in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or related fields
  • Working knowledge of English
  • Knowledge of polymer science and/or rheology is a plus
  • Working according to Dow’s Environment, Health and Safety standards
  • If not in possession of a VCA basis certificate, you will be required to obtain this certificate during your first month at Dow (Dow will facilitate this). 
  • You can start between February/March – June/July 2026 for a period of 4-6 months (exact timing to be discussed).
