Business Data Systems Administrator II
Job Description:
Working under limited supervision, incumbent monitors and provides technical support for essential business software and computer systems. Provides system oversight, data management, and operational expertise to end users, project teams, and senior leadership. Coordinates installation, updates, and maintenance of business platforms and technical systems, including software, system integrations and management of hardware, including mobile electronics and communications devices and/or equipment.
At this level, incumbent possesses solid working knowledge of subject matter and demonstrated ability to: 1) perform assigned duties at full competency, and 2) handle moderately complex to more complex issues and problems.
About the Position:
Working for Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities under the GIS/IT division. Maintain enterprise systems such as the Utility Billing System (CIS), SCADA, CMMS, etc. Develop reports and analyze data for operational and regulatory compliance. Assist with the implementation of new technologies, including planning and project management. Provide technical support and training to other staff members on the use of various software platforms and liaison with software vendors. Duties include managing databases, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, ensuring system efficiency and security, and assisting with project implementation and staff training.

Key Responsibilities:
- Monitors, administers and supports essential business software and computer systems Ensures functionality, reliability and ongoing improvement of those systems. Works with Information Management Services (IMS) in advising, servicing and identifying needs of the staff.
- Reviews business requirements and develops functional specifications to ensure that technology solutions support business objectives.
- Aggregates and performs statistical analysis on business data based on requests from project teams or senior leadership for use in decision making and organizational efficiency improvement initiatives.
- Integrates data from multiple data sources or functional areas, ensures data accuracy and integrity, and updates data as needed.
- Writes queries or reports to provide data for various analytical projects.
- Interprets data to identify business trends, conduct root cause analysis of business problems, or suggest areas for process improvement.
- Assures all business data and systems are secure and adhere to established security standards and policies.
- Configures and supports software and hardware.
- Manages and serves as the department or division administrator for business systems, including related applications and software.
- Implements and maintains tools for monitoring and eliminating systems downtime.
- Troubleshoots and resolves issues that arise, implements solutions for problem areas, and performs upgrades.
- Manages and serves as a department/division administrator for work group systems. Including Asset and Inventory Management, Service Requests, GIS, etc.
- Develops detailed specifications and selects hardware for new solutions based on current and future business needs.
- Provides consulting and training to personnel in the business units; and liaises with internal and external parties.
- Serves as a liaison between development teams and the internal/external customer or end users.
- Communicates requirements to development teams through specifications, statements of work, project plans, or other forms of documentation.
- Coordinates with developers, quality assurance teams, and users to test processes and ensure functionality and user acceptance.
- Develops user documentation or training materials, as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business (or Public) Administration, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, or a similar field plus two to four years of experience. Education and related work experience may be substituted one for the other on a year-for-year basis.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships, work as part of a team and effectively across different levels of management and various functional areas.
- Ability to manage projects and multiple competing priorities simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Ability to communicate highly technical ideas in clear, concise terminology that is understandable to department leaders and end users.
- Ability to be a resource in solving technical problems and initiating changes to processes and procedures to meet ongoing user needs.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with CIS, Power BI, CMMS, WIMS, SCADA, and other water, sewer, and stormwater software.
