POSITION OVERVIEW
BDC Advisory Services supports the growth and development of Canadian entrepreneurs with the delivery of high-quality advisory (consulting) engagements. We are currently seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Business Advisor. This role is ideal for recent graduates from a CPA programme (or equivalent) who are eager to apply their financial knowledge and advisory skills in a dynamic, client-focused environment.
The Business Advisor is primarily responsible for delivering successful projects for Small- and Medium-sized businesses, collaborating closely with Client Partners (CPs) and Business Development Leads (BDLs) to ensure successful execution and client satisfaction.
Over time, you will deepen your expertise within the Financial Management Centre of Expertise (CoE), providing strategic financial guidance to entrepreneurs.
The role requires solid business acumen and an understanding of the business and operational challenges faced by small and medium sized companies across various industries. In addition, it requires strategic thinking, strong project management skills and the ability to effectively manage client relationships.
CHALLENGES TO BE MET
Lead multiple (concurrent) projects and ensure the desired objectives are achieved (managing project scope, resources, coordination, communication and timelines) ensuring timely delivery and high-quality outcomes for clients.
Work closely with BDC Network Consultants to deliver client projects, providing guidance, training and quality assurance.
Demonstrate leadership and ownership in client engagements, proactively managing expectations, overseeing key tasks, and intervening when needed to add value or course correct.
Track and report on project progress, maintaining accurate data and documentation.
Support sales efforts (pre-sales) by providing insights, data, and expertise for proposals and client conversations.
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, internal stakeholders, and external consultants.
Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of financial management solutions, sharing learnings and best practices within the CoE.
Act as a trusted advisor, recognised for your ability to add value and handle challenging projects.
Support the development and management of external consultants, contributing to the expertise community and evolving solutions.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA designation (or working towards obtaining it).
5 years of experience inclusive of 1 years in a management consulting environment.
· Strong business acumen coupled with strong understanding of financial management and ability to develop pragmatic strategic plans that are relevant to an SME business environment.
Understanding of the business and operating challenges, processes, functional requirements, solutions and capabilities for key industries (e.g. manufacturing, construction, wholesale/distribution, retail).
Experience in managing client-facing consulting projects and engagements.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively.
Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills; bilingualism (French & English) is an asset.
Some travel to client sites, within Western Canada, with occasional travel to other locations across Canada, if required.
