Primary Responsibilities /Accountabilities/ Essential Functions:
- Design and launch behavior and mental health training that addresses early indicators of concerning behavior radicalization, or potential violence to self, another, or campus group.
- Support the development of a comprehensive framework that includes prevention education, intervention procedures, recovery planning, and critical information sharing.
- Create procedures outlining reporting, threat reporting and tracking, communications, and case management.
- Build database for tracking, analyzing, and managing reports of concerning or violent behavior.
- Coordinate with established programs to identifying separate case management and tracking.
- Oversee the intake and triage of all reports of concerning, threatening, or harmful behavior from various sources, including staff, students, and community members.
- Lead a multidisciplinary threat assessment team, which may include members from public safety, emergency preparedness, human resources, legal, academics, student engagement and mental health, to review cases and develop coordinated action plans.
- Conduct behavioral threat assessments to evaluate the risk of potential violence to self, others or campus based on an individual's behavior, communication, circumstances and group affiliations.
- Manage a case management workflow, ensuring all records are ethically and legally maintained.
- Ensure timely and appropriate intervention to mitigate identified risks.
- Coordinate a timely and appropriate response to critical incidents, working with law enforcement and other emergency services as needed.
- Rapidly and efficiently share critical information to campus and community partners when an individual with elevated or immediate risk of violence to self, other(s), or campus.
- Monitor, receive, evaluate and respond to student, faculty, anonymous, and campus threat or risk reports.
- Develop and deliver scalable training curriculum for faculty, staff, students, and community partners.
- Develop and deliver training programs for the community (e.g., employees, staff, students, community partners) on how to recognize and report concerning behavior.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop awareness materials and promote a culture of safety and reporting.
- Maintain subject matter expertise by staying current on emerging trends, best practices, and legal requirements related to threat assessment and violence prevention.
- Provide direct case management for individuals of concern, developing and implementing tailored intervention plans.
- Establish and maintain tracking system in an effort to monitor students who are being identified, evaluated and who have been considered clients of concern, hospitalized and who are being recommended for counseling to prevent future risk of harm to themselves, others or acts of violence.
- Coordinate care and connect at-risk individuals with internal and external resources, such as mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment, and social services.
- Conduct welfare checks as needed to ensure the safety and stability of individuals.
- Monitor and follow up on cases to assess ongoing risk and ensure compliance with safety plans.
- Perform crisis intervention and de-escalate volatile situations with empathy and compassion.
- Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of all case-related information, evaluations, and outcomes.
- Establish electronic system with ability to send mass notifications to additional Prevention Providers in an effort to warn community of clients intentions pose an immediate threat to themselves and others, when risk or threat of violence is possible. The mass notification system must be secure and send detailed Be On the Lookout (BOLO) to include first name, last name, contact information, picture, vehicle and potential target areas of violence. Information can be shared across multiple platforms and integrate into Real Time Operations and Crime Centers.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for the threat assessment program, ensuring compliance with all legal and ethical guidelines.
- Ensure the program's adherence to relevant regulations, such as FERPA and HIPAA, when handling sensitive information.
- Analyze program data and metrics to identify trends, evaluate effectiveness, and inform proactive risk mitigation strategies.
- Provide periodic reports on program activities to senior leadership.
- Other duties as assigned.
Equipment Used and Responsibility
- Proficient with Microsoft applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and proficient with utilizing database systems to retrieve data.
- Expertise in behavioral threat assessment models and crisis intervention strategies.
- Knowledge of human behavior, mental health issues, and targeted violence.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
Supervisory Responsibilities
May manage a Crime and Intelligence Analyst or other field related positions.
Experience/ Education
- A bachelor's degree in a related field such as psychology, social work, counseling, criminal justice, public administration or related field. A master's degree is often preferred.
- Several years of experience in behavioral threat assessment, wellness checks, safety plans, case management, crisis intervention, or a related field within higher education.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams, conducting threat assessment that includes public safety, legal, HR, counseling staff, and key higher education student services
- Experience in a corporate, higher education, or healthcare setting is often required.
- Must be able to pass background check.
