Bachelor Thesis - Downstream Process Development (m/f/d)

Heidelberg, Germany Full time

Our purpose is to bring hope to life by enabling life-changing therapies for patients around the globe, creating a healthier and happier tomorrow. Our mission is to work side by side with our customers in order to improve patients’ lives by bringing new biopharmaceuticals to market.

The AGC Biologics GmbH Downstream-Processing department in Heidelberg is seeking a motivated student (m/f/d) to complete an interesting hands-on bachelor’s thesis project. The student will work in the intersectional field between measurement and control technology and computer science programming for biotechnology.

The current bachelor's thesis topic is named:

“Design and implementation of a highly flexible, fully automated pharmaceutical TFF-System as scale down model suited for process characterization”

Description and tasks:

The goal of this project is to design, build, and commission a state-of-the-art, highly flexible Tangential Flow Filtration (TFF) system. This system will serve as a crucial scale-down model for pharmaceutical process development, enabling automated protein concentration, buffer exchange, and multi-step chemical reactions (e.g., reduction, oxidation, PEGylation). This is a unique opportunity to see a complex mechatronics project through from concept to a fully functional, automated piece of laboratory equipment. As the project lead, you will be responsible for the project lifecycle, including:

Stage 1: Design and Planning

Stage 2: Physical Assembly and Wiring

Stage 3: Software Development and Programming

Stage 4: Commissioning and Testing

Stage 5: Documentation and Thesis Writing

Your Profile:

We are searching for a bachelor student (m/f/d) with background in electrical engineering, automation and control or related fields with a strong programming / robotics focus. The bachelor's thesis is designed for around 3 months, and the start date can be agreed upon individually.
