Purpose

ATI, a unit within Discovery to Impact that serves as the deep tech incubator of UT Austin, is the longest continuously operating technology incubator in the United States. For 36 years, ATI’s mission has been to empower university and community entrepreneurs through a customized approach to effectively commercialize their breakthrough innovations and compete in the global marketplace.The ATI Coordinator serves as a vital team member of ATI reporting directly to the Executive Director. The Coordinator provides support across all portfolios helping identify promising new companies to apply for admission, while supporting those portfolio companies as assigned. The Coordinator is expected to have strong communication (oral and written) skills, be detail-oriented, a strong business acumen, political savvy, and an ability to participate in a collaborative environment centered on open lines of communication with all ATI team members. This role requires a nimble, team player committed to ATI’s growth and excellent reputation in incubation and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • ATI Pipeline & Portfolio Company Support: In concert with the ATI Executive Director and Portfolio Directors, continuously build and manage a vigorous pipeline of prospective member companies, including increasing the number of companies based on UT IP and research. Support member companies in cooperation with ATI directors on strategic business issues including participation in Quarterly Strategy Meetings (QSMs). Identify, define and manage ATI company projects (ACPs) for Student Associates. Continuously support and build ATI’s Student Associate program. Supervise the Student Associates and manage their ATI onboarding/offboarding. Provide teaching and research opportunities for UT students and faculty. Support the Executive Director in expanding the ATI know-how network of investors, service providers and strategic partners that can serve as mentors and/or resources for ATI companies. Add significant value to member companies through regular and frequent consultation and deployment of UT and other resources.
  • ATI Planning & Reporting: Manage coordination aspects of ATI, including scheduling of all QSMs and ACPs, as well as supervise special events including delegations, workshops, ATI Horizons, and more from definition through to execution. Oversee use of platform technologies to track and manage the ATI portfolio and pipeline including but not limited to Monday.com, UT Box/Sharepoint, Qualtrics, and others as required. Manage overall reporting for ATI, including supporting ATI directors with completing the various SECO, UT System, and corporate partner reports.
  • Fundraising: Support the ATI directors in growing ATI’s financial base and enhancing and expanding relationships with funding sources. Proactively identify and cultivate relationships with potential sponsors to secure funding for events. Research, compose, and submit grant proposals to secure funding for key projects.
  • Marketing: Leveraging UT Austin resources, provide marketing visibility for portfolio incubators and ATI generally, through events and other community engagements, including representing ATI at events organized by ATI partners. Contribute to building the entrepreneurial ecosystems in Central Texas, including through partnerships with IC² Institute, investors, industry, the City of Austin and others.
  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with experience in supporting innovation and commercialization opportunities. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, including spoken and written communication. Demonstrated project management skills involving multiple team members. Experience working in a university ecosystem. Self-starter demonstrating initiative and resourcefulness managing various programs and exceeding stakeholder expectations, delivering results in line with program deadlines and budgetary requirements. Passion to work with startups, mentor students and build new organizations. Professional demeanor and customer-focused attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science disciplines, Master’s degree in Business Administration or equivalent experience. Experience working in a startup and/or an incubator or venture capital organization. Experience in university tech commercialization. Demonstrated expertise in public speaking. Knowledge of customer service concepts and techniques; ability to meet or exceed customer needs and expectations and provide excellent service in a direct or indirect manner.

Salary Range

$60,000+ depending on qualifications
