About the role

Passionate about science but looking for a career beyond the lab? Join the Cell Reports team at Cell Press as an Associate Scientific Editor. We welcome scientists from any area of biology who share our commitment to helping researchers publish their best work. You’ll manage the editorial process from submission to publication, working with authors, reviewers, and internal teams to ensure accuracy and quality.

The role involves coordinating production timelines, maintaining standards, and supporting workflow improvements. You’ll also have opportunities to mentor colleagues and contribute to innovation in scientific publishing. We’re looking for someone with a strong scientific background, excellent communication and organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the peer review and publication process for a growing open-access journal.
  • Collaborate with scientific editors to develop high-quality content across biology.
  • Build strong working relationships with colleagues across Cell Press.
  • Engage with researchers through conferences, events, and site visits.
  • Ensure timely and accurate editorial decisions and workflow management.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for journal growth and innovation.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in editorial practices.
  • Stay informed on publishing trends and digital communication strategies.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in a biological discipline.
  • Postdoctoral research experience is advantageous but not essential.
  • Broad scientific curiosity and commitment to supporting researchers.
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Creative, adaptable, and open to experimenting with new ideas.
  • Understanding of open-access publishing and digital communication trends.
