Associate Director, Patient Engagement; Engagement & Diversity Delivery

The Associate Director, Patient Engagement; Engagement & Diversity Delivery is responsible for creating innovative approaches and identifying vendors and third parties to deliver recruitment and retention strategies that reach and engage representative patient populations, accelerating enrollment and elevating retention across trials. Key responsibilities include: 

  • Identifying innovative vendors to meet recruitment, diversity, and retention goals, and ensuring their services are optimized for value.

  • Collaborating with Patient Engagement colleagues to optimize strategy delivery, including content generation, vendor performance, best practices, and customer concern.

  • Overseeing financial aspects of strategy delivery, adjusting capabilities as needed.

  • Collaborating within the team (Clinical Capabilities) and broadly across the larger organization (Clinical Design Delivery and Analytics (CDDA)) to share best practices, drive efficiency, and influence strategic delivery.

  • Ensuring a culture of quality, inspection readiness, and prompt delivery of Lilly’s assets.

Technical Leadership

  • Operationalize clinical trial recruitment and retention strategies for diverse populations across therapeutic areas, making informed decisions and overseeing budgets.

  • Drive execution of clinical trial strategies through goal setting, innovative recruitment/retention approaches, and regulatory submissions.

  • Collaborate with Clinical Capabilities and CDDA to create, implement, and measure diversity strategies.

  • Apply community-based research to increase trial access for representative populations.

  • Partner with Engagement & Diversity Capabilities to identify and manage innovative vendors, establishing key performance indicators.

  • Ensure the creation of culturally sensitive, health-literate deliverables to optimize recruitment and retention strategies.

  • Maintain and expand relationships with internal and external stakeholders to boost enrollment and retention.

  • Ensure a culture of quality, inspection readiness, and compliance with global regulations.

Enterprise Leadership

  • Ensure continuous learning and improvement by addressing patient, caregiver, and investigator needs and driving internal changes.

  • Lead and influence cross functional communication and shared learning

  • Drive adoption of innovative approaches for successful recruitment and retention of diverse patient populations, anticipating and proactively mitigating issues.

  • Leverage data trends to improve future studies from engagement through retention.

  • Engage external vendors to maintain a competitive edge in recruitment and retention strategies.

  • Collaborate with industry representatives to learn and apply key findings, shaping environmental practices.

  • Foster a culture of partnership and shared learning to standardize efficient and valuable practices.

  • Support the integration of cultural understanding into clinical program strategies.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific or health-related field, marketing (or equivalent degree)

  • Minimum 5 years experience in clinical trials/drug development or broader pharmaceutical industry

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B, or TN status) for this employment position

Other Information/Additional Preferences

  • Post-graduate degree (e.g., PharmD, M.S., M.B.A., Ph.D.)

  • Broad understanding of pharmaceutical drug/device development

  • Knowledge and experience with project management tools and processes

  • Proven ability to lead, influence, and meet timelines

  • Strong interpersonal and excellent communication (written and verbal)

  • Strong organizational and critical thinking skills

  • Experience managing complex, cross-functional projects

  • Understanding of clinical drug development processes and task interdependencies

  • Experience with clinical research investigators and representatives

  • Ability to lead and influence teams towards common goals

  • Skill in anticipating and resolving technical, operational, or business problems

  • Innovative solutions to increase clinical trial access for diverse populations

  • Minimal travel required (10-25%)

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.  The anticipated wage for this position is

$115,500 - $169,400

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
