What You'll Be Doing

The Client Services (CS) Due Diligence (DD) team holds a global mandate for Risk Reviews and occasional onboarding for the Capital Markets lines of business. The DD team is primarily responsible for conducting periodic Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) reviews for Global Transaction Banking’s (GTB) portfolio of correspondent bank clients.

Reporting to the Director or Team Leader, you will conduct comprehensive client risk assessments, including thorough reviews of adverse media and geopolitical risks across all jurisdictions in which the bank operates. You will also coordinate compliance meetings as required, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and internal standards. The Due Diligence team partners closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that best AML practices are consistently applied and maintained.

As a member of the CS DD team, you will contribute to the effective execution of CIBC’s Enterprise AML framework as it pertains to GTB’s correspondent banking clients. You will also participate in Capital Markets strategic initiatives under the leadership of the Head of Client Services, supporting the bank’s commitment to regulatory compliance and risk management excellence.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How You'll Succeed

  • Client Review and Assessment: You will conduct comprehensive reviews of correspondent banking clients at onboarding, during periodic assessments and for triggered or ad hoc reviews. You will need to collaborate with teams across CIBC to confirm a client’s relationships across the Enterprise and ensure alignment with all applicable Enterprise AML standards. You will maintain a risk review tracker to ensure all client risk reviews are completed before designated deadlines and that documentation is kept up to date.

  • KYC & Client Information: You will gather and validate information to assist in the preparation of compliance and governance reports, such as the Qualitative Assessment Report. Assess and highlight risk trends, review product information, and document any changes in the overall client risk profile.

  • Risk Mitigation: You will identify and mitigate risks to CIBC, including those related to adverse media, transactional activity, geographical exposure, and other key risk factors. Investigate potential risk-related concerns through analysis and the use of AML-specific investigative tools, such as World-Check One, Bankers Almanac, and other sources.

  • Reporting and Documentation: You will need to investigate AML risk-related concerns and assess due diligence areas as required. Ensure AML and compliance reports are complete, accurate, and processed in a timely manner for submission to GTB Relationship Managers and other internal stakeholders, in accordance with existing SLAs. Maintain and document records in compliance with regulatory requirements (OSFI/FINTRAC) and CIBC Enterprise standards.

  • Recommendations and Stakeholder Support: You will provide high-quality, risk-based recommendations to support client relationships, ensuring they withstand scrutiny from business personnel, compliance, audit, and regulatory bodies. Prepare detailed written reports addressing high-risk clients.

  • Team Development: You will support the development of team members by coaching and training analysts and new staff, and ensuring submission trackers for assigned cases are accurately maintained by both Analysts and Reviewers.
